USA Eastcoast, If you get in a bind for whatever reason, PM me. Doubt you'll need it, but it's there. I'll help what(/where the) limited I can. Dunno if there's a clause for substitutions anyway.
I'll try 'n shoot cameos for hi-score threads in the meantime.
Come to think of it, what are the chances 3 people of a small team don't have the proposed game?

Won't that go right back to the "What if everybody on the team doesn't have the game" problem?Leeram wrote: I don't think we should have 3 people playing each game from each team. I think all players should play and the top three scores be added together. That way everyone gets to play everything.

A team should be at least 4 members, but I'd say should have 5-6 players on it. 7 might be too many again...
Ah I forgot, I wanted to reply on this before:
If every member plays each week, the ones with the lower scores in the team 4th, 5th won't count at all. This may be a bit frustrating if you are not among the best players of the team. Because your hard efforts in trying your best won't be recognized if you aren't among the best 3 scores of your team.
On the other hand if we do it with playing formations, there is indeed the possibilty that a team won't let their weaker players participate, i agree. But since we are all nice dudes, I think we will be varying our team formation and won't ONLY think about victory. (I hope at least
)
And if we let everyone in the team participate you will feel more as an important and intact part of this team. Because you know your score will count and can help the team, even if you are not among the best players.
That's at least the way I see this.
Also we could start to nominate certain games for each theme or voting for certain themes. I'll start with my 2 cents, might add some games later:
(please do only vote for games you'd really like to play on this)
Cave Week:
DoDonPachi, Progear
Takumi Week:
Giga Wing, Mars Matrix
Raizing Week:
Armed Police Batrider, Battle Garegga
Retro Week:
Star Force, Exerion, Xevious
Gradius Week:
Gradius 5, Sexy Parodius
Horizontal Week:
Thunderforce 3, R-Type Delta, Einhänder
As much as I'd like to do one of these:
"C64, Amiga or MSX"
I think that not enough could participate, because first these home computers aren't that popular all around the globe and also the emulation of these is pretty difficult. (Not impossible, but people might not like to bother with getting the emulation running)
So we are gathering the potentially interesting games for each theme. and then start a theme-specific voting thread for each week.

Yeah, I see your point there. Couldn't you just not give out points? It could be like the shooter olympics. Everyone can play.Edge wrote:Yeah, I see your point there. Oh and um.
Cave Week:
DoDonPachi DOJ, Mushi ULTRA, Ketsui (not likely

Takumi Week:
Giga Wing, Giga Wing 2
Raizing Week:
Armed Police Batrider
Psikyo Week:
Gunbird 2
Alfa System Week (or other company week?)
Shikgami no Shiro 2 with Fumiko only
I can't think of anything else I want to play that I haven't already played to death.
Looks like people are picking their favourite games I see. -_-;;
If anything, game selection should be based on availability - the games up for selection should be emulated decently at least, with ports available, which should increase the number of people able to take part. No Ketsui, for example, since only 2% of the forum own that game. ^_-
Games that have console exclusivity - Einhander, Gradius 5/Gaiden, Raiden 3 - etc should be excluded as well, unless its a console from the 16bit era or earlier, as again it limits the maximum amount of participants able to play.
Finally, arcade emulated games should be selected based on how well they can be emulated. Sadly, games I'd love to compete in such as G-Darius and Brave Blade run too slowly even on my PC, so system-intensive games should be excluded as well.

So you think I should narrow it down to only games that can be emulated.
Ok, we might do that. I thought people might get upset if they can't play their favorite console shmups... But I guess, you are right, accessibilty of the games will be the primary goal.
If you guys trust me, I could make up a nice selection of games for the polls myself. (Doing one poll thread for each week, like we did on Ramus' Shmeets)
I am planning on doing the first week, a Cave week. So we could still discuss the later weeks later...
I feel you are getting itchy fingers.

If we are going for nominations I'd suggest aiming for those games people are less familiar with, while obviously there's nothing entirely new here for people to discover it could nontheless help provide a solid grounding where people are equally confused an uninitiated each week. After all, there may well be dozens of garegga experts, ddp experts, but batrider? feveron? by comparison they're very much overlooked. It'll give the comp an element of freshness imo.
so,
Cave Week:
Feveron
Takumi Week:
not much to choose from here is there.. I guess Giga Wing, but didnt they have a hand in that copter shmup?
Raizing Week:
Armed Police Batrider, Dimahoo
Psikyo Week:
Sengoku Blade 2
Retro Week:
Silkworm
Gradius Week:
One of the Twinbees?
Horizontal Week:
I'd vote UN Squadron (SNES) other than you can sit on the trailer stages for ages... maybe instead the red headed step child that is R-Type Leo
For a classic week, perhaps Recca or ChoRenSha
I am at least serious about the Cave and Raizing week. It'll be dull dull dull if we all have to run through garegga and ddp again.

Cave Week:
Esprade, mostly because I just ordered the PCB from excellentcom.
Takumi Week:
Giga Wing or Mars Matrix
Raizing Week:
Batrider or Bakraid
Retro Week:
Xevious
Gradius Week:
Gradius 5
Horizontal Week:
Darius Gaiden

If every person taking part has access to a game (e.g. Gradius V) I see no reason to exclude it. Of course it'll mean more work in ensuring such is the case - so perhaps it's best to nip that bud right now.So you think I should narrow it down to only games that can be emulated.
I don't know what order you intend to run the weeks but I'd aim for variety - weighting down the top end with Cave, Psikyo and Raizing for example may kill the enjoyment for those waiting on Horis, Gradius and 'Classic', or vice versa. And going off the assumption that Cave is the #1 shmups.com fan favourite developer right now it may be better to leave their games for the ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN!!! or the half way mark...I am planning on doing the first week, a Cave week. Yeah. I'm not particularly in the mood for Donpachi again.Tychom wrote:And going off the assumption that Cave is the #1 shmups.com fan favourite developer right now it may be better to leave their games for the ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN!!! or the half way mark...
(But only if I can submit my 14mil smeet score from last time ^_-)
Maybe its a good idea to start with something a little simple and fun that everyone can get into, and then start to mix in the big stuff like Cave, Raizing, Toaplan etc?
Well, at least you can be sure that if this is pulled off smoothly and is well received, and runs to its conclusion, you'll have a good template for future smeets. ^_-

So Tiger II it is then :pNope, definitely not. They didn't make Night Raid either.
TBH in Takumi's case it's hard not to choose GW or MM. It's what people expect, know and more than likely want.
