Sega develops Gunstar super Heroes
18.03.05 - Sega works on the Actionspiel Gunstar Super Heroes. That comes out from an appropriate trademark protection entry bem American patent office of 10.03.05. Whether the development is taken over as with the mega drive Gunstar Heroes (1993) also by Treasure, is unclear. Likewise still no platform is well-known. Release: TBA.
This is good news for obvious reasons but the potential for both greatness and disappointment are substantial. But Treasure wouldn't make a sequel/followup unless they thought they had a winning new game mechanic. As long as they keep it a 2D platformer (don't see why they wouldn't, not like they made Ikaruga an on rails 3D game), I'm very sure they will deliver a very memorable and well designed game. This is Treasure after all. As long as people don't expect an expansion pack to the Genny cart we can expect a great actioner.
It will be interesting to see how different the character and art is from the first (since Ikaruga featured very different S&P'esque characters and much darker art than Radiant)

That's because Yasushi Suzuki did the artwork and character designs for both S&P and Ikaruga.

Yeah I know. I guess I should have phrased it "It will be interesting if they use S&P's artist."
I smell a GBA release, and if Guardian Heroes is any indication. There is plenty of room for disappointment, but a glimmer of light at the end of the room (?) (Astro Boy GBA was cool).
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"
...
That's not what that quote says, as far as I can see. Whether Treasure are involved or not is "unclear."
Very true. My bad on jumping the gun a bit. Hmmmm. Does Sega maybe in some way have part of the rights to Gunstar? Speaking on the other end of jumping the gun...

Took the words right out of my mouth. After playing that game, I became Treasure's #1 anti-fan.
Is the game really that bad? Aside from the pro reviews, I heard that the game isn't that bad. I also heard that it's not emulated perfectly and slows down a lot more on roms. What exactly did you find wrong with the game?

It feels rushed, unpolished, uninspired, and empty. The entire system is based upon blocking and counter-attacking instead of jumping in a crowd of guys and pummeling them (like a you should do in a scrolling fighter kind of game). And he story segments are longer and even less relevant than the first Guardian Heroes.
It's so sad, because the first Guardian Heroes is what made me love Treasure, and the second is what destroyed that love.
Bah. Bah I say to thee, Andrew! We all know you hate it cos you can't get past the fourth level.
I like Advance Guardian Heroes; sure, it was one of the biggest disappointments to me of 2004 (my hype for it escalated to godly proportions), but it's still a good game. Everyone should at least check it out and beat it.
Advance Guardian Heroes is a fun game though not great. Certainly trumps the sluggish gameplay plagued and slowdown infested original. Once you get the hang of the counter apsect, the game is a breeze and a bit deeper than people give it credit for.

You all know it's true, deep down inside
I don't know about that, but it is certainly a better value. I'm pretty sure that Gunstar Heroes doesn't contain $40 worth of fun, but I know that Contra: Hard Corps contains at least $6 worth.

$40? Damn, I paid $10 for it, and I later saw it elsewhere at a couple places for about the same price. That was a few years ago, though.
And Gunstar Heroes is totally awesome, whereas Contra Hard Corps is just pretty awesome.
This is an interesting move by Treasure. Every time Treasure releases a game there's always the "yeah, but when are we going to get Gunstar Heroes 2, dammit!" response. The hype has been building up years before the game was even announced, and I don't think any game can live up to that kind of ridiculous standard.

Why? That would be a complete waste of time. Anyone can go get a MD and play the old titles. Treasure should, and DOES, spend their time making new games designed around the hardware it is intended for.
Regarding that image, I do not believe it is real. The icon in the upper left is just a rip of Red from the Gunstar Heroes JP cover.
Good points about the reused art, etc. In that case they are probably fake, since now that I think about it the PSP is a multimedia system you can display practically any retouched screens on it with little effort.
I have not played Guardian Heroes games, but that must be clearly a case of bad genre for the GBA hardware. It's not that they couldn't do a good one with enough effort, but it was clearly going to fail expectations since the prequel runs on a Saturn. I wonder why Treasure decided to ruin their no-sequel policy with a so flawed project.
Gunstar Heroes' formula, on the other hand, would shine on portable systems.
I've just finished Astro Boy OF anyway, and I cannot recommend anymore. Truly a work of art. Excellent, gba gaming at its best. And it has the charm of a Dynamite Headdy-esque game. Please buy it, in multiple copies.
About that PA comic... Yeah, lately sega does suck a lot. But it's not a problem: Sega and Treasure have always been closely related, If a Gunstar 2 is really on their mind there's a high chance that Sega would leave the development part to T. I mean, just think how the press would crash them otherwise...
