I doubt that Ketsui is in any danger of being emulated or ported any time soon.

all the older Cave games are playable in MAME (Dangun Feveron 1998, EspRaDe, Guwange etc). they seem more mame-able than Toaplan, a lot of who's games have no sound in MAME
ive no idea when Dangun for example became emulated, was it recently?

1) Driver has a crapload of encryption that unfortunately cannot be applied to other games using that hardware (DOJ, Espgaluda etc).
2) I heard that the driver itself has been removed at request. Info on one of the many other threads discussing Ketsui in MAME.
3) Only Arika are interested in porting, but for some reason, a port is very difficult to pull off. Especially considering the kind of stuff they want to add to the port.

As for older Cave games, with the exception of Progear no Arashi, which is a recent development, they've been emulated for well over 5 years now.

And Toaplan stuff runs on slightly altered hardware to Cave's older system. The sound chip being a problem in emulation.

Look for the many other threads that discuss these issues. This kind of thread should be stickied, seriously The amount of times it crops up...

Ketsui is probably at least as hard as DDP2 to emulate properly. DDP2 still doesn't work in mame. Combine this with the facts that Ketsui hasn't had a home port yet and that DOJ was removed as a test driver from mame, I would say no earlier than 2010.

2010? Better than never. Seriously, the farer away a shmup is to most players, the better it seems to be (a bit like RSGun). Don´t get me wrong, I really want to play this too - finally a shmup that pulls of bullets that travel downwards, AND THEN UP! And the music is ace, too; not to forget that intuitive scoring system.

The days prior to Ketsui being emulated would consist of ESPGaluda I and II being emulated, Ibara, and Pink Sweets also emulated...which is to say...

Playstation 2 Emulator...not MAME.

Why would you want to play emulated ports? I mean there is nothing intrinsically special about the PS2 that allows it to push sprites around as opposed to the original arcade hardware.

^^^ So you don't (necessarily) have to buy them?

Right now, if you want to play Ketsui, you either have to go to an arcade that has it, or buy a PCB yourself.

Sure a PCB costs 10 times as much as a newly released current-gen console game, but you're getting a game that's probably 10 times better :)

When someone starts a donation fund for the person who provides MAME with a working driver. Money is always a great incentive for programmers!

MAMEdev historically refuse monetary donations to the project itself and absolutely when there are strings attached.

Sorry.

Money can go to the dumping project if you just want to donate. :)
