I picked up mine for HK$35 plus $15 to install a battery. [Bootleg ]
First impressions...cool power-ups, quirky bosses, multiple paths, useful stage select.
Because it's boring and way too easy. I played the game exactly five times (or how many ending stages there were anyway), and in those five runs I cleared every route.Middlemoor wrote:Why do you guys hate it so much?
Normal. And I felt no desire whatsoever to "challenge yourself TO THE MAX!" with Hard. The game's just...dull, in a way that doesn't relate to the game's difficulty.Middlemoor wrote:I don't think it's boring or incredibly easy.
Did you play the game on Normal or Hard with 2 lives?
It'd be nice if someone did...Ghegs wrote:But hey, you seem to like it, good for you. Take part in the high-score thread.Middlemoor wrote:I don't think it's boring or incredibly easy.

That's interesting; I'll have to look into that game!Twiddle wrote:The GBA one, yes.Dale wrote:Is this Power Puff game a pure shmup?
the musics bad, in that it comes nowhere near the Zuntata quality of the old Darius games (the soundtrack being one of Darius series big plus points IMO). its basically "remixed" versions, using wanky instruments, which sound shit.Middlemoor wrote:Quote:
Is the music in Darius R good at least?
Yes, it's cool.
Not sure what you mean by a "wobble mode" screen...
Dude, it's a Darius game, and the series has a substantial following amongst shmuppers. If you're going to say that Darius R sucks, at least try and explain why you think so. And let's not forget that the Saturn port of Darius II also has wobble mode, unless you want to burn your eyes out and not zoom the screen in at all.UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Suck must be the new good! Screw the pedigree, it doesn't make the game good. Here's a summary of why Darius R sucks.dave4shmups wrote:Dude, it's a Darius game, and the series has a substantial following amongst shmuppers. If you can do other attacks in games, it's no longer a shooter?dave4shmups wrote:I just watched a video clip of it, and it looks as much like a flying beat-em-up as a shmup.Twiddle wrote:The GBA one, yes.Dale wrote:Is this Power Puff game a pure shmup?
Wobble mode is when the whole play area is not contained on a single screen, hence the vertical scrolling as you go toward the top and bottom. The original arcade Darius games weren't designed with this in mind.Middlemoor wrote:Yes, it's cool.Is the music in Darius R good at least?

...can't say it's any slower than Gradius or R-Type.
Ok, thanks for the impressions. These screenshots look pretty good, though:UnscathedFlyingObject wrote:Screw the pedigree, it doesn't make the game good. Graphics? Not good even by GBA standards.
Gameplay? Where's my firepower, bombs, capture balls, super lazers, awesome bosses?
Sound? Meh, the GBA can do much better.
Replayability? no thanks.
It is playable, but I've better use for my time than playing "playable" games. I'd have to be pretty desperate to play Darius R over G-Darius or Darius Gaiden. Both light years better.
