Did a maniac mode run without rapid fire this morning just for a change of pace, and improved my score:

MANIAC
253,928,317 - TWE - Stage 5 - PS2

Still a pretty crappy run though.

Again on stage 2 only, trying something I thought of last night, I got 81,719,922 with a 200,000 counter on the mid boss using M-Power, I died twice on the boss like a muppet though.

Wow, a 200,000 mid-boss counter with M-power!? I think the Maniac mode player on the Superplay DVD mentions something about how he might start playing with M-power, because it has certain advantages. I'd be interested in exploring this, as M-power is ignored completely by most players.

Another improvement tonight, inching closer to the 500mil barrier!

MANIAC (RAPID FIRE)
437,694,756 - TWE - ALL (Lx2) - PS2 - [A+4, C+2]

I didn't think this run would be too hot as I entered stage 5 with 252 mil and only 3 spare lives, but I managed to get 165mil on stage 5 and nearly finished with three spare lives, no-missing the stage until the very last moment--I lost one life with literally one f'ing second away from finishing the last boss. I reached a 160,000 counter on the midboss, and I'm glad that after much practice I can now do this pretty regularly (I did 190,000 once today).

359,028,029 - TWE - ALL(Lx0) - PS2

My stage 5 without rapid fire is almost the same as with (I got about 140mil on this run in stage 5 alone, with my usual 160,000 counter on the midboss), which helped my score quite a bit. Stage 3 was crap in this one (died a couple times). Oh, and I missed the 1up in stage 3 as well! Anyway, I had to get a 1CC without rapid fire, so here it is. I'll be going back to working on my rapid fire score now.

I did a bad photo of the score cause the run is registred on a dvd and as soon as possible I'll realese it on Ast web site...

Yeah, pretty good thanks. I'm doing what you're doing: 50/55/60 after stage 2 and after stage 3... Well, it's always a surprise ^_^
In this run I've got ~180 (or a bit more, but not less) after it, IIRC. Stage 4 was pretty gay: bombs and deaths over my standards (even with the mid-boss, so the lack of points). Haven't got the boss this time, but I feel stage 5 near. This means that it may take weeks or hours to get it

Good fight toby. I hope you would like to back into maniac mode with me after this! Btw let's see what happens here

Sounds like me, I've started stage 3 with 60mil and 3 lives countless times,
and it can end anywhere between 61 and 200 mil.

It's a lottery.
The 4th misboss is a bastard, I've only nomiss-nobomb'ed him once,
and then I died on the green flying things instead.

I played a credit last night and Maniac feels like heaven compared to Ultra, hoping kotaro's movie will give some tips.

Today another Good run..350.xxx.xxx against the 5° mid-boss...I tried to improved my counter on it but i died after the last attac.......

My stick's button are going to leave me....Maybe next week I can put on a New Sanwa button and a new seimitsu stick....
Using pcb at Neverland's house I saw that in the third stage the game became very slow, this not happend in the ps2 porting, so I can catch i very high counter...

Somebody have ever seen this difference!?!?

Sure it will! I see him play live and he's awesome

Kot: it's normal, the port has fucked up slowdowns in every mode. I can only say that to my feelings this is less noticeable in Original. PCB'S ULTRA is definitely harder than the other, for example.
