It's quite nice how the ship moves a bit faster. Raiden 3 must have had the slowest incarnation to date and change is always welcome with this series.

Hopefully people gave Moss some feedback to make a new RF style game in the future, that's something it seems everyone would like a refresher on, myself included.
Did Moss and Seibu merge at some point? Because, AFIK, there is no working website for Seibu. :?:

I've seen peoplee tear up raiden 2 and using the toothpaste laser exclusively.

The way it can be snaked around gives it more depth then most homing weapons ,and it's definitely not unbalancing, and dose a good job at letting you concentrate on dodging.

I talways has been my favorite for raiden 2. It' sjust so much more FUN then the other two bog standard weapons.

This sums up my feelings on it exactly. I love latching that beam on a big boss and letting it zap away as I weave through bullets. It's sort of like a demolitionist version of Radiant's lightning beam.

Toothpaste beam quibbles aside, those are some disappointing impressions from Kaneda to say the least. Sounds like their heart is not in it at all anymore (IIRC wasn't the original Raiden dev/now supervisor...need name...the only remaining team member to be involved on III?)

Well at least it's not a "Viper" Phase. Badump-Pish!

I just watched one of the shaky vision clips and it looks decent enough, I'll give it a spin (if there's a home port) I dug the battle with the big spider mech and the reproducing carrier ship.

correction: I like the "Riemann" lazer.

Whoa! Yeah, I think the speed of the whole system is turned up a notch and they sure start throwing the poop at you after Stage 2, don't they? I was quite impressed with Stage 2: backgrounds are much better and the 3-stages of the Stage 2 boss were very cool. I kept thinking that the player was not going gonna deal with the transport ship, but you end up taking him on last!

I will make the purchase if it does go to PS2!

In terms of graphics, much much better. Stage one has some gorgeous effects, my favorite being the clouds reflecting in the lakes. The ground explosions are nice too, very detailed and smooth.

Certainly if you were a fan of III you will like this, but they didn't change the x2.0 score system which is lazy and disappointing IMO. Gotta do better than spruced up graphics to get me to give a shit.

They should have brought back at least some of the scoring gimmicks from the earlier games, like flashing medals and "at a time" bonuses.

is it me or does stage 3 look kinda like the stage 3 from raiden iii, looks fun but seems like laziness was also at work.

why oh why.. raiden was such a fucking brilliant franchise up till "JET", what happened? :(

3 is an ok game, easily the worst of the series tho.

hard to say what the graphics will be like in 4 but cmon, typeX is one of the most powerful arcade hardwares out there, just look at what grev managed to do with under defeat with the NAOMI hardware  anything looking less brilliant is an embarrasment imo.

as for the gameplay issues, one can only hope they took enough shit after 3 that they upped the antee...

Let's hope it has a faster ship and overall better play mechanics.

I actually miss the Homing Purple Laser from the Second Raiden game, but that's just me. I mean, some people probably consider that weapon to be overly powerful and cheap....meh.

I don't find the Homing Plasma overpowered at all. In fact I find its the opposite - painfully weak and too random to be useful, and next to useless in Raiden DX especially. I've always had better results with Spread Vulcan and Laser myself.

I wouldn't be able to tell IV and III apart from those videos. Then again, I've probably only played about an hour of III.

I think I'll go play some more RIII now.

Anyone hoping for a faster ship has no idea what Raiden is about. That isn't the problem.

That might be the guy who has the individual stage Raiden 3 double play videos up in his site.

Wow, the videos look kickass. I haven't played Raiden III yet, but I definitely still have a bad taste in my mouth from Raiden II (sorry fans, I hate that game).

I second that - that laser is what drew me into picking up Raiden Project lo those many years ago.

Seibu has always been good at providing us with satisfying weaponry in the Raiden games. Ahh, the napalm shot of VP1. :)

How exactly does that work? I saw some score multiplying when enemies were killed, watching videos of the game, similar to what I've seen playing Silpheed 2.

The purple laser did rock, but I do like the idea of a laser that you can "sweep" with; and there are lot's of traditional shmups where you can even do that much with whatever laser weapon you get.

When I finally play Raiden III, I may find it to be the worst of the series as well, but, heck, Panzer Dragoon Mini is probably the worst P.D. game, but is still REALLY fun.

I know what Raiden is about...I just felt Raiden III needs a faster ship. Anyway, this is an absurd sort of statement from you cigs. I can wish for a faster ship without being ignorant on my Raiden-etiquiette...

Anyway, I was one of those who hoped against hope that Raiden III would be good, but was still dissapointed. Hopefully IV will be a serious improvement.

Sorry for the double post, BTW. In any case, it's not as if the series has ever been known for fast ships-that was part of the difficulty of older shmups; there weren't as many bullets, but the slower speed of the ships made it easier to get killed.

Oh good, they actually made the carrier launch segue straight into the first stage. Now if only the stages would link directly into one another as well... or at least a better link than fading out after stage clear and fading in on a new possibly related area. I already have higher hopes for this than Raiden III, which while still a fun game in its own right, never felt exactly like Raiden for a handful of reasons. Raiden IV though... geez, what a generic name.

A nice 1st level vid from the AM show (right click to save):

This is the first game to use the new Taito VIEWLIX cabinet, which has a 32in widescreen monitor. Here are pics of the cab, I really like the 'all white' button and joystick scheme:

Nice video. I like how you can see the ships taking off from the run way while you are fighting others. Wish they changed the music up a bit. But they've got the purple laser, so it's good.

The cab looks very nice.
