New to this forum, quick intro

Post by Strider77 »

Just wanted to to do a introdution and list what shooters I'm into ect..

It's kind of hard for me to break down a favorites list. There are shooters that I think deserve to be on the top ten list ect, but then there are the shooters that I find myself playing the most....

these are the ones I find myself playing the most

Thunder Force 5 (I'm a huge thunder force fan, TF3 made me fall in love with shooters)
Dodonpachi
Battle Garegga
Soukyugurentai (I think this is the shooter I have had the most play time with in my saturn, esp 2 player)
Gradius 5

I could list a ton of others I like and own but I kinda wanted to show what I wind up playing the most/spending the most time. I think that shows a more honest view on what your personal preferances are ect.

I just picked up Dodonpachi on PSX and Ibara on PS2 this week. I have to say I have been missing on one of the best shooters EVER!!! Dondonpachi is so destructive in a FUN way... chaotic also. I had to get the PSX vers once I heard the explosions we murdered on the SAT vers.

People seem kinda split on Ibara but I am really liking it it, but I'm a Garegga fan. I only wish Ibara had an option to flip the controls in tate, I can't flip my tv, it's way to big. Am I the only one who plays tate sideways?

Here is a list of what I own...

Saturn:

Radient Silvergun
Thunder Force -gold pack 1-
Thunder Force 5
Hyper Duel
Blast Wind
Darius 2
Darius Gaiden
Layer Section
Strikers 1
Strikers 2
Macross
Battle Garegga
Soukyugurentai
Guardian Force
Salamander Collection
1940s Collection

PSX:

3 Wonders
Gradius Gaiden
Dodonpachi
Einhander
Raystorm
RayCrisis
Thunder Force 5
Philosoma
R-type Delta

PS2

Ibara
Raiden 3
Silpheed 2
R-type final
Gardius 5
Gradius 3/4
Cho Aniki

DC:

Gunbird 2
Mars Matrix
Giga Wing 2
Boarder Down
Bangaioh
Ikaruga
Chaos Field
Zero Gunner 2

Mega Drive/Mega CD:

Musha
Thunder Force 2
Thunder Force 3
Thunder Force 4
Elemental Master
Gaiares
Gynoug
Dennin Aleste
Silpheed
Bari-Arm
Devastator

PC Engine:

Gate of Thunder
Lords of Thunder
R-Type complete
Spriggan
Spriggan Mk2
Side Arms Special
Down Load 2
Gradius 2
Macross 2036
Cho Aniki
Sapphire

Super Famicom:

Thunder Spirits

Thats about it.... i left things out like contra, afterburner, assault suits valken ect.

Any must have shooters or ones I'm missing let me know about and why you think there good.... or say whatever you want about how much you hate such and such game and how could I own it and still slepp at night....

hello strider77, welcome to the forum, your games choices seem pretty well chosen IMO, check the Annual Shmups Top 25 thread for further suggestions

nice collection, welcome to the board.

If you can't flip your main TV, it might be worth it for you to pick up a cheap small tv at walmart and leave it permenantly tated. Its a simple solution and will cost you well under a hundred bucks.

A newbie? Here?

I thought we sprayed for them ;)

Anyway, welcome to the forums Strider77. Have you considered picking up Thunder Force Gold Pack 2? It has Thunder Force AC (which Thunder Spirits is a rather poor port of), as well as a slowdown-free TF4 (which bumps up the difficulty).

I know what I want to ask about.......

the new dodonpachi on the PS2, how is that? Hows it look and what did they add play wise?

ESPgaluda 1 and 2, were both ported to PS2 and how are they?

Dodonpachi DOJ and Espgaluda 1 were both ported to the PS2 by Arika. They are some of the best ports money can buy. Both include a superplay DVD along with the replays that are in the game itself. Both feature true low res mode as well, no blurry filters.

As for the gameplay, DDPDOJ is probably cave's hardest game. It takes everything that was good about DDP, turns it up to eleven, and throws in hypers and a rank system.

Espgaluda is the most accesable Cave game in years. The kakusi mode allows you to slow down time and navigate complicated bullet patterns, but it can also be used to rack up high scores once you master the game.

Both games are great and well worth the money.

galuda 2 hasn't been announced for ps2 yet, but we are hopeful.
