But I am very weary of playing any shmups at non-default settings, I think it kinda goes against the spirit of the whole thing.
For the very same reasons, you should impose yourself default control devices, right?
Not sure if that was a swipe at me (?), but to qualify my remark: most competitions are done against default settings, but you can always say you scored a value against a particular difficulty setting? And nothing preventing you from adjusting for your own style of play…?
Not particularly at you, mind, but at everyone who self-imposes default settings because those are the only ones that can be assumed as the game's author's intent and at the same time doesn't care about the controls the game was conceived for and will use anything at hand or that provides some advantage.

So not actually for those who follow a competition's rules but for those who set these.

Thanks Faith!
Faith wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 4:25 am Also, when you activate Break & Double Break, the bullet cancel from Break activation also form part of score (so I usually do these when lock-on multiplier is active). Because of this, there is a lot of routing to score boss properly. Depending on mode, some, like Unlimited, can be big headache
Argh, I can barely get the lock on kill as it is. This is pretty strict! Im bad at video games though so git gud i guess. I did record a run where I tried to dismantle the stage 1 boss, didnt get much score obviously but I wanted to see how it feels like. Am I doing it correctly?

Is ok!! So, if you look at my same video at around 2:40 you can see how I kill this boss... for this run I did care to score this one, haha.

So for Stage 1 boss, there are 4 main parts you want to destroy. The most important ones are the two big cannons on left and right side (there are also two smaller turrets all the way at bottom of boss, which are nice to kill also (usually same as killing shot of boss), but less important). For my route, I memorize how much I need to damage the two big guns on top left and right side of boss. Usually, memorization will be most of the work... but, once a boss part is low HP it will also flash red (this is how you know soon lock-on can kill it).

So in my order, I kill left side first with no Break to get x9.6 multiplier, then soon after activate Single Break to cancel bullet which do two things: first, to score, and second; to increase the white counter under the multiplier so multiplier stay active for longer. Then, after that I point-blank boss to increase gauge as fast as I can, so I can Double Break before doing lock-on on right turret for x12.8!!~

Then after that, get boss HP low enough, so I can lock onto main boss body and the two smaller turrets at bottom, to deliver killing blow to x12.8 those last three parts. That is how I increase score by +200 billion from before boss start, to end of Stage 1 scorecard.

Now, important for you to know: I do not play Original for score. However, the basic idea to execute this boss will be very similar still!

Also, in case you not know: for this boss, it will transition its phases at set times. However... if you baboom the big turret, it will cause the boss to immediately transition to the next phase. This is important to remember to route the entire fight properly as well!

For me, my route is very strict because in Unlimited, I need to have the correct attack pattern for each step I do to attack each part!! But in Original, will still be very similar idea @_@"... you want to attack and know that when the big turret baboom, you get the next bullet pattern phase... so you know what to expect... know where to be... and know how to handle the remainder turret on the right side (assuming of course that like me you kill left turret first, which I recommend for sure because it is very annoying lol) >.<!!!~

You got this! It's the one big challenge of the game, so it can feel like a slog to practice and get back there for another shot. It's all about locking into little "safe spaces" in the pattern and trying to deal as much damage as you can before you need to refocus and move again.
I got it right now!!!

This is a video question, but the video is shmup related so: I was thinking about doing a video review of a shmup that I'm currently playing (and enjoying quite a lot) - but my English pronunciation isn't the best. What's more tolerable; listening to swenglish with no subtitles or reading subtitles while ignoring plain Swedish?

(Edit: I might just go text review, I haven't really decided yet.)

Should Faith even dare try do live run for Crimzon Clover Arcade Unlimited in Shmup Slam @_@?~

Just saw submission for online stream open soon... and, in some way, had been practicing for this... trying to make route as reliable as possible. But... the only thing in this cursed mode that is reliable is how unreliable it is... lol!!! Really don't know. I am quite good at this game and mode I feel... yesterday, I did 3x 1CC in a row in this mode... but I still find, after so much time... really, REALLY stupid things can still happen and throw whole run down cliff. Like today... I did one run... die 2x at Stage 2... because that fk Mid-Boss, that I NEVER die to... his options went all the way to bottom of screen and crash into me! And this had never happened before X_X"... few weeks ago had TLB rocket out of screen into space and took SUPER long to reappear and GG routing after that... also never happen before. So... I think now fear is just bad luck and nervousness from live run... and will just make hyper embarrassment of self lol. Anyone run in this event before?

I've never gone live on this kind of events, but I'd like. I'd say that if you have practiced enough you should give it a go.

There's a couple ways to do this:

a) pick a language and then do subtitles for the opposite or both languages (for a vert game, you can make a big ol sidebar where hardsubs would fit nicely), as a bonus subtitles work for deaf people

b) if you want to target both people who speak both swedish as well as english speakers, make two channels, one that's a Swedish version and one that's an English version, or do two video releases, one per language

I have a local friend who speaks English with a Swedish accent and honestly it's fine, your English is likely very good, Europe in general tends to be much better than say North America about learning multiple languages.

Haha for me will not go event live... too shy >.<!~ But not mind do stream from online! But had someone just told me they heard for Crimzon Clover someone may do run from event already! If anyone know who player and what mode they playing, would love to know! Because for my idea... was hoping to actually do like "dual showcase" kind of run... with other player playing Arcade Original and me Unlimited... because thought would be super cool to see both modes play next to each other since they are so different (and even look different)!~

For Faith,

You could wear a cool mask and still pull off a live streaming run of Crimson Clover Unlimited and still remain anonymous quite easily or just show only your hands doing their magic on the ol' gaming keyboard setup. It's not that hard to do.

That's a cool idea but only do it if you think it will be fun :)

If I go the video route I'll make it in Swenglish with optional subtitles! I'm a big fan of "if it doesn't need to be a youtube video then don't make it a youtube video", but there's more and more things in Homura I'd rather show than explain in text form. We'll see!

Do Switch shmups run better on Switch 2?

Wondering if it's worth upgrading.

Very worth upgrading. You'll get better framerates and less lag.

Some amateur testing I found:
Switch Gunbird: 88.5
Switch 2 Gunbird: 67.6
Switch Zero Gunner 2: 99.7
Switch 2 Zero Gunner 2: 97.1
Switch Cotton 2: 166.1
Switch 2 Cotton 2: 161.2

No definitive answer then though it's encouraging to hear that Raiden III's issues are resolved. Will keep an eye on it.
