I wanted to play the others before doing Salamander III (I struggled through Gradius III as usual) so I got used to it, I was just a bit confused as to why Salamander III didn't have.

The "obvious" explanation is that the other titles are older arcade games running in an emulator that comes pre-packed with those features.
But the practical reasoning doesn't make any sense to me either. If they do think having those features really makes a game better, there's absolutely no reason why they couldn't have implemented them into the new release as well

It’s odd because GG Aleste 3 is a recent game, yet that one has quicksave…

GG Aleste 3 is made for Game Gear, so the version you played was most likely running in an emulator as well

Oh well. One loop on the hardest difficulty is enough for me. I'm not gonna attempt to go to Loop 3 and beyond. Besides, Salamander III, like all the other Gradius games, are endless.

Just saw this clip on X that really proves just how rushed / poorly designed Gradius III (arcade) really is:

The hit boxes on those boss bullets (0:06) are atrocious. They must be at least double the width of the actual bullets.

I really can’t stand Gradius 3. Stage 2 is such a terrible idea. Stage 1 is also really cluttered and unfair.
SNES version without slowdown is the way to go

Yeah, the SNES version is a significantly better game. The game was clearly designed around the slowdown though, what bothers me more is the sprite flickering when the screen gets busy.

Yeah, the SNES versions is basically a director's cut rather than a console down port.
