Ibara is anime hentai bukkake bullshit. I'll wait for a REAL Garegga sequel.
This guy agrees with you.

I'd start liking Ibara immediately for self respect alone.

times have changed

it seems the gritty war torn look of shmups has turned into anime-ish cute shit

if they made a BG2 and they HAD to make characters, they better resemble the old hardened muscular men of the early 90s/late 80s art styles

that's my opinion anyway

edit: these guys have to look like they're going to war!

just look at the Under Defeat girls, WTF!

I was pointing out how what he just typed is incongruent to a later statement.

I would enjoy Ibara, and I know pandering to otaku sells. Not much I can do about that.

I was talking to the thread poster, and in general not to you specifically.

Although I really don't understand the whole "being offending by girls" sentiment brewing lately.

I don't know about others, but for me, it's not so much being offended as much as it is a kind of sad trend that's been going on in Japan. Sex and mentally-weak characters sell boatloads, and last year's anime trends reflect this.

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't the only thing selling.

Also, how the hell can Garegga be overrated? It isn't even in the top 25 anymore.
Sixth place, actually. Check again.
I must be thinking of last year. Still, the point has been made, top 25 among a very small group of fans of a very narrow genre--most of which don't even own the game.

Anyway BM, the issue really is there: Everytime Garegga is mentioned you have to tell us what is broken about it. Why? This is the gazillionth thread now where you explained to us that Garegga is broken.

Its also the gazillionth thread where people complained because you told us that garegga is broken. You speak like your on the defense, but has it occurred to you that it's the other way around? Like I said in my first post, I just don't like feeling like I'm retarded for enjoying the game. Honestly, there are a lot of shooters out there that aren't as 'flawed' that I like one hell of a lot less. So what is your point?

If we all agreed with you, gave you a big prize, maybe even pretended we hadn't noticed the inviso-bullets and rank ourselves, could we promise to bring up this topic only once a year? :P

*******************************************

And back to the real discussion, Rastan78 and Arznei seem to have it figured out--Ibara has some problems (I think its an OK game), but it really isn't so close to Garegga is others make it out to be. Once again, I could very much see enjoying Garegga and not Ibara.

 Never knew about that! I do this a lot in Dragon Blaze, since the power ups don`t matter much in that game opposed to the dragon shot. and I can concentrate on those mean bullets way better that way.I`ll give that a try, maybe I`ll 1cc Strikers 1945ii THAT way one day.

It's not useful as a tool to keep rank super low and get an easy clear, it's for world record players who need to get every last point. Not even worth worrying about if you can't clear both loops really.

Rastan78 does have it figured out though.

So I keep seeing posters mention Ibara's flaws, while managing to refrain from actually explaining what they are.

I agree that there are flaws but I'd be interested to see what others think. Except Arznei, who clearly has it all figured out.

That's really not quite true...at the beginning of this thread I pretty much stuck to the topic at hand (and IIRC I said more about Souky than I did about Garegga); the thing that set me off was the ridiculous "invisi-bullets are okay because they're more realistic" comment. Garegga in itself isn't what gets me going on this sort of topic (as I've said myriads of times now, in spite of its flaws I like the game a lot): rather, it's the way that arguments which would be laughed off as ridiculous and fanboyish if applied to any other game are seemingly viewed as perfectly sensible and acceptable when given in Garegga's favor. When you ask below "what's your point?" THAT is my point.
Its also the gazillionth thread where people complained because you told us that garegga is broken. You speak like your on the defense, but has it occurred to you that it's the other way around?
I guess I could see how I might be seen as being on an "offensive" of sorts...as I said, however, I'm not even "against" the game itself, just the puzzling and uneven attitude some have towards it. If people, even if they disagreed with me, offered up more sensible arguments on the subject rather than the paper-thin wackiness (usually with a generous helping of indignance on the side) I see accepted with open arms so often, I'd have no reason to ever bring this sort of thing up.
Like I said in my first post, I just don't like feeling like I'm retarded for enjoying the game.
I have NEVER so much as insinuated anything like that (one more time: I like the game!)...again, it baffles me how people seem to automatically take my comments to their illogical extreme whenever it's on a topic like this one...
If we all agreed with you, gave you a big prize, maybe even pretended we hadn't noticed the inviso-bullets and rank ourselves, could we promise to bring up this topic only once a year?
I'm not demanding that everyone agree with everything I say, I'm just hoping that whenever the next batch of brazenly kooky justifications for shortcomings in ANY game (not just Garegga, though I tend to see it most often in connection with it) comes up, someone (hopefully not just me) will be able to offer up a proverbial "wtf?!" without being labeled as some sort of hopping-mad extremist.

Ibara is not as enjoyable as Battle Garegga for me, Ibara is way more frustrating and difficult, and the hitbox is not as sleek in that you might think you can sneak through the little gap in the bullet rain, but more often than not you can't, wheras in Garegga it appears to me to be the opposite. Also, Ibara signals the dubious return of being 'point blanked' by enemies, which i thought had been banished from shmups since 1992 or something. Also, the bosses are hard to the point of seeming nigh on impossible to the average player. But still a good game worth trying. Ibara rewards a lot of play time with little glimpses of hope, then trashes them 5 seconds later :x

I don't either, but that Pink Sweets soft porn trailer was f'ing ridiculous. Personally, I like Styleos' artwork, camel toes and all. I think it makes sense that we see more of this style since arcade games are pretty much marketed only in Japan now. In the late 80's early 90's era it was more of an international market, hence the hardcore Predator/Terminator/Aliens/Rambo/Top Gun influence on character designs going on at the time.

That much I certainly agree with, as those two things (well, in the former case I wouldn't say that the rank system is itself a "weakness" [it's highly unorthodox and quite challenging, but that's about it, really] as much as its innate inaccessibility is) are really about the only two problems I have with the entire game, I think everything else is very well done. And believe me, no one regrets this whole thing having taken on "a life of its own" more than I do, as it usually results in the point I'm trying to make becoming lost under a tidal wave of emotionally-charged stuff that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

That said, whenever something utterly nonsensical, pro or con, is said about any game, not just Garegga (plus non-game-related stuff, of course), I still feel that it deserves to be candidly (though not insultingly) pointed out and dealt with on the spot. And that's about all that this whole malarkey boils down to, really.

The Garegga bullet discusion anoys me to death.
The first time I saw screenshot of garegga I was blown away completely even more so than when I saw Strikers 1945 I & II's screenshots.
I saw those first and got those games first, then I got Garegga and sometimes in live, you just know you got the best money can buy. It was so for me with Garegga. This game has quality dripping off in sweat from your tv (I don't know what that means, sorry)
And the thing I absolutly loved about the game were in fact the bullets. Bullets make a game, without bullets there is no game. Garegga, without a doubt has the best bullets ever. Then i went here, shmups forum and people were thrashing the bullets.
One explanation could be that people were NOT expecting to get shot at, or they were too used to other game's bullets. Anyway there must be a logical explanation. Because that is just mind boggling. And even if it was 8ING/Raizing somehow foresaw the hatred and included a red ball option for all the haters. For me it's just another nice feature to check how Garegga would've look if it was less of a masterpiece and had generic bullets. I want a Garegga pcb just to say I have it, but they're a bit expensive and pcb wise I like the Raiden Fighters series even more.
And I say that not liking Raiden I, II and DX that much. Those are just average.
Anyway console wise BG rulezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Talking about rank has become the shmup equivalent of talking about a popular sport and what's the best team in an absolute way. Which is nothing short of absurd, of course.

Small bullets.. dumb anime characters... poor loading times (it loads, starts, LOADS AGAIN, starts?), some bosses require you to save bombs otherwise dodging them is almost impossible, some bullets are super hard to see when you are the second player (blue ship + blue bullets), etc.. I am sure there is more but I have only played the game for about 30 hours. So I cannot say. I dont like the game overall mostly due to different things even if they are small issues.

dude

they're going to war

the characters should look like war hardened soldiers

and not gay anime hentai characters

that being said, having hot women in the game is fine

as long as they appear in the ending

I don't care if that's seen as something chauvanistic or not

you look at society and tell me how many movies starting a strong female lead make it big (with the notable exception of Uma Thurman in Kill Bill)

If you mean "talking about whether or not a certain rank system is 'good' or 'bad,'" then I agree with you. But of course that's not my agenda (at least not anymore ;)).Though I don't think that means that ANY discussion about it is automatically not worth bothering with...though again, hopefully once the Garegga ST is complete there won't be as much need for it anyways.

Nothing wrong with hot chicks in video games. Something wrong with that insane commercial, which was probably one of the most creepy and awkward one take wonders I've seen, right up there with Super Becca.

T2 - Sarah Connor, with Arnie as backup. Don't forget, the whole story is narrated by Sarah. She is strong enough to stand as a female lead on her own.

Matrix - Trinity qualifies as a female lead I believe, especially since she's important to Neo in many ways. (I think she has more scenes in both Reloaded and Revolutions as well.)

X-Men - Well, yeah. Maybe a bad example. (Storm... mmmmmmm) ^_-

There are probably a ton more films out there with strong female leads. I just can't remember them at the moment (head full of Ibara ^_-).

Offffffff-toooopppppiiiiiccccc like a muthafucka.

You should know fine well that the leads are determined by the plot of the movie, and not by some advertising poster. Posters are there to promote, and if you slap on the most well known of the cast, you attract more attention.
