S-video into a BVM

My MiSTer feeds RGB to my BVM but I'd like to also feed it S-video. I remember reading that S-video into a BVM is tricky. I think there's a rare original S-video input card and also a new homebrew one?

Savon Pat recently sold a dozen BKM-24N after a recap for about $400.

I bought a Koryuu Transcoder (composite/s-video to component) for $40. It's not that I plan to use it, just as a spare.

It's hard to find an input card for the BVM models that need one, and they break easily.

Instead you can find a Retrotink 2X and hook it up to an HDMI to VGA or component DAC. The quality will be equivalent (with a 2X Pro or Multiformat). You should be able to do this also with an OSSC Pro and legacy AV input add-on. If you happen to have a Retrotink 4K, you could do the same thing and the quality for s-video (and also for composite) would be pretty much the best you can get.

I think you're saying:

MiSTer -> HDMI -> DAC -> VGA -> Retrotink -> S-video -> BVM

So transcoding from RGB to Y/C on the Retrotink? Native Y/C from each core on the MiSTer would be better quality I think?

I'm not sure I'm understanding what you want to do. You want to feed s-video MiSTer into your BVM? Why would you want to do that instead of RGB?

The bkm-24n and the bkm-27t are the solutions. Both are rather expensive and uncommon these days. The Koryuu also works fine for converting it to YPbPr. I don't think the result is as good as just feeding s-video directly into the monitor. There are other transcoders out there, but they are incredibly hard to get a hold of and often very expensive.

I wouldn't really bother with it unless you're absolutely forced to. There are only a few consoles where you can't just mod to RGB. The only one still in my own setup is a Turbonanza modded PC Engine that I run into a bkm-24n and then looped out into a Koryuu for the monitors that have zero s-video support.

I'm trying to feed both RGB and S-video into my BVM. At any given time I'll either use the BVM with RGB, or I'll use it with S-video along with my consumer TV which is S-video only. Having both running via S-video at the same time would be kind of cool. The source is a MiSTer.
