Official Raiden IV thread
I'm suspicious of this announcement as well. III wasn't exactly a masterpiece, and a rush job sequel wouldn't do anybody any favors. I'd actually prefer a III DX with gameplay tweeks and new levels and that sort of stuff.
OT: III got ported to cellphones, and it's 2D, with recycled I + II graphics, WTF?

I wait to see what they do with this one, if they decide on a system change or opt for more of the same. I'm one of those people who are on the fence about Raiden 3 - neither love nor loathe it - and hopefully they add something that really grabs the attention.

I hope they put in the RF bonuses and game system in at least
I liked Raiden 3, but the scoring mechanics were kind of lacking

@Bal-Sagoth:
It's "have a Coke and a smile" but close enough. ^_-
@Herr Schatten:
Were you expecting something else? ^_-
This version of Seibu Kaihatsu seems to have forgotten its roots and what made the past games so great. To think that Raiden Fighters or Viper Phase would appear in an updated form is somewhat wishful thinking.
In any case, lets milk the franchise. Fingers crossed that Raiden 4 will be somewhat more ass-kicking than the somewhat average Raiden 3.

This somewhat makes sense considering that the only people from Seibu that are in Moss now are Go Sato and the producer from Seibu (his name escapes me).
Wonder where the rest went.

Go Sato is with Moss? How reliable is that information? If true, he certainly didn't have anything to do with the BGM for III*, cause that shit sucked hard. If he does the soundtrack for IV, and it's along the lines of his Raiden Fighters stuff, that would be all I want.Twiddle wrote:This somewhat makes sense considering that the only people from Seibu that are in Moss now are Go Sato and the producer from Seibu (his name escapes me).

(* I have not confirmed this, since I'm not motivated enough to actually beat III and read the credits. The BGM is however complete crap, and is a big factor in why the game is so weak.)

Go Sato did the first stage, the final stage, and the insert demo for Raiden 3. (Stanzas from the Viper Phase 1 and Raiden Fighters soundtracks appear in those tracks, though slightly warped.) Those were the good tracks.
Two other composers did the rest, which mostly sucked.

What are the chances of him coming up with some original, new stuff for IV? Cause that would make me a happy camper, who knows, I might even buy a PS2 for the home port...maybe.

So does Raiden III loop?Kaiser wrote:Yeah i played all original raidens (from 1 to 3 expect fighters) 3 Was too easy for me let's hope 4 will be 1 hour long!
I'm excited about this news; let's face it-Type X will never look as good as Naomi, or whatever the earlier Raiden games ran on, but that doesn't mean Raiden III is awful or that this new game will suck. I can't wait to see some videos, hopefully next week!

I know it's "have a Coke"; I was being facetious and deliberately warping the phrase so as not to support that insipid, ersatz rubbish. I used 'Brew' in case Barr's delightful product isn't sold outside the UK, and so nobody would assume I sat on the keyboard.
I didn't think I was being that subtle, folks...
I guess the internets are serious business.

Again, my comment was quite a deliberate pseudo-riposte to a general sentiment; we've more than covered our Raiden III-ship-whinging quota.Or it might move like a snail stuck in treacle.

I agree with you, i prefer to see some fresh news about the "Raiden" license than no more news at all ! There are so many old school series which seem or have been abandoned (Parodius, Salamander, Thunder Force...).sideshow wrote:I dont know about you peeps but this announcement is great news. Shmups do not come out very often nowadays so this is awesome. I'd be more pissed if it was called Raiden Final. Damn you R-Type series for ending!
The Thunderforce thing really makes me sad.Leeloo Minaï wrote:

I'm also getting a little edgy about Darius and Rayforce as well...

Uh, really? Let me guess, it placed 11th-20th from its release?cigsthecat wrote:Makes sense, Raiden III lasted forever in Arcadia's top 20. It placed 17th just last month.
