Two more TV-related obituaries:
Alf Clausen, former longtime composer for The Simpsons, age 87, of a brain disorder.
Johnathan Joss, voice of John Redcorn on King of the Hill, age 59 - apparently shot dead by a neighbor, possibly on account of his being gay.

The details of the murder, if his husband's account is true, are exceptionally fucked up.

Maybe mention that's not Sylvester Stallone.

The one with the middle name "and the Family".
Re: The Shmups Forum Dead Pool
Oh damn. One of the best. Coincidentally was talking about Sly and the Family Stone on Sunday with friends. We were having a discussion about R&B groups that were family members and they came up.
There's A Riot Goin On is firmly in my favorite albums of all time.

Brian Wilson, frontman of The Beach Boys, has passed away at 82 years of age.
My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself
<Despatche> you've been a thorn in the shmups community since the beginning, you're largely responsible for the horrible face of modern speedrunning

Re: The Shmups Forum Dead Pool
Aww crap. That one stings. I've been a Wilson watcher since I was a kid. He's genuinely one of those people who I sometimes thought about over the years, and it was a comfort to know he was still around, and that there might be some more music coming from him.KennyMan666 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 6:47 pm Brian Wilson, frontman of The Beach Boys, has passed away at 82 years of age.

They were just touring with Ministry. Was he part of the tour?GaijinPunch wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 12:56 pm Douglas McCarthy, front man of the band Nitzer Ebb, at age 58.
Re: The Shmups Forum Dead Pool
Way too early to leave us!
Nitzer Ebb were playing WGT last year when I was there, but he had to cancel due to health issues and someone else (no idea who) took over vocals duty. But without Douglas on vocals, that's just missing a massive part of what their music is. I've seen them live enough times anyway. But man, I had no idea the health issues were *that* severe
My only personal run-in with Douglas McCarthy was right when they made their comeback in.. 2007 or so? I was helping out the organizers of the local show and he was resting on top of my jacket, so I had to disturb him to get it. I rarely feel starstruck in the presence of EBM artists because of their relative obscurity, but this guy had a certain legendary aura to him. Very cool and friendly, though.
That's Gabi (DAF) and Douglas (Nitzer) out, and Front 242 just officially finally called it quits after decades of touring (they played a couple of new tracks though, so maybe they still have an album in them?).
But dammit, someone needs to protect Dirk Ivens.

Re: The Shmups Forum Dead Pool
Well, this one hurts. Bill Moyers.
The man was basically the only leftist on TV after Phil Donahue was fired for being against the Iraq war. His episode with Chris Hedges on sacrifice zones was a major step in many people's journey from lib cattle to radicalized anarchist.
That, and the Slavery By Another Name documentary that reminds people that slavery 'with an extra step' is still legal here.
If you were a weirdo pervert who liked knowing things, PBS was your gateway drug into the abyss. Knowing things is horrible I 100% don't recommend it. As Internet Hippo always says, 'I'd give anything to go back to not being informed.'
Thanks for everything, Bill. You were one of the few people close to the levers of power that actually gave a shit about human life.

Re: The Shmups Forum Dead Pool
I'd rather die in tears than live with compartmentalization.
There's the journey that mankind has to take, and then there's the individual journeys that we must all take alone. If we can't see the former through, the least I can hold myself to is seeing to the later.
rip Bill Moyers, one of the very very best
