At least there's no way someone could do something like this for bullethell shooters :P
You definitely could, and they're all going to look like this

On topic: new old school shmup yes, and with the game mechanics I suggested, but I want tons of parallax, rotating and scaling effects, and all that 2.D stuff that Cave never managed to do properly (yes, I always thought that "modern 2D" is really modest in potential, pixel art or not pixel). If you guys start a project like this one and ask for extra money to people who want the beefier effects, I am going to splurge like my hands have holes on them!

Oh yes. That's given me thoughts of Mega Man 8 on the Saturn. It's not a shmup, I know, but the parallax, colour palette and just general loveliness of the animation is what it's about. Psikyo's games have a similar sort of feeling. I want beautifully animated mech transformations, dammit!

HG101 works exactly like any other publication that relies on freelancers (at least they used to, I haven't looked at it in awhile), in that somewhat submits an article about a game(s), if the editor (Kurt? I e-talked to him a million years ago) finds it well-written and informative, they publish it (AND pay you for it. Which is something I can not say about most niche publications it's size). Meaning, if an article is run that you don't like, don't agree with, or just think is wrong for whatever reason, there was something you could have done about it, you just didn't. Like MJ before, start with the man in the mirror.

tl;dr Your incontestably correct opinion could have been up there for future generations to study and admire, AND you could have been paid for it. All you needed to do was write it. You didn't, so it isn't. Someone else got the gig, the money, and the inside track to future generations.

Someone else explained to you what is wrong with your posts. That explanation suffices. Off to the ignore bin you go.

EDIT: Sunnshiner, I probably agree entirely on your thoughts, but I guess that we must ask OP if he can create all those lovely effects. Again, I would pay for them.

For future reference, the statement "I am ignoring you" is a contraction. You wouldn't be addressing someone you were truly ignoring (and you certainly wouldn't be sending them a notification). Just saying

Hard maybe for me. I'd love to see what developers can do within the constraints of oldschool shmupping, but they'd need to get past the aforementioned boring aesthetics to get my attention. I'd also prefer gameplay that's a bit more.... I dunno, engaging? I'd like less time where the game is just playing itself or where I'm waiting around, and more time where I'm making active decisions.
