Re: Castle of Shikigami III PC port - crowdfunding
Finally! But yeah, other than that...
The latest post on the Camp-Fire crowdfuning page mentions their March release, and that backers will get their codes for the game and soundtrack ASAP starting from today (2/13/25).
However, as mentioned before, the game is going to be a port of the arcade version, so no "console" version stuff sadly. Munchausen is selectable as a hidden character similar to Chibi Fumiko in 2. And "Dramatic Change Mode" (switch between 2 characters during gameplay) will be included as an update sometime after the launch of the game.
Also, looking at the store page, while it'll be in both English and Japanese for text menus and dialouges, the voices are Japanese only. Sadge...I was hoping the voices from the English Wii version would be included. (Unless it might be possible to mod them over like I did for 2's PC/Steam version, unless its in a format that I hope could be possible to replace them with easily. But I'm doubtful that it might be a slim chance.)

So the upcoming Steam port will be based on the original Taito Type X arcade version of Shikigami No Shiro III? If that's so, then it'd be a 1:1 copy, right?

I'm assuming so, but yeah, as mentioned from their recent project post under this line...PC Engine Fan X! wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 4:28 amSo the upcoming Steam port will be based on the original Taito Type X arcade version of Shikigami No Shiro III? If that's so, then it'd be a 1:1 copy, right?
・PRJページにも記載しましたが、今回はアーケード版の移植バージョンです。
・As stated on the PRJ page, this is a ported version of the arcade version.

Ah, that's pretty exciting and surprising if it's a new port entirely - I had assumed it would be a quick compatibility fix-up of the 2006 Windows version.

That trailer doesn't fill me with optimism, seeing as how they got Emilio's name wrong.

They have it listed as Emirio.

Oof...Otherwise, I didn't notice it until lately. (Although it was mentioned on Cosmo Machia's socials a while back...) But Shiki 3 for PC/Steam is coming out on 3/13/25. Like Exelica for PC/Steam, the game will have the game and the soundtrack separately, or you can buy a discounted bundle (probably at 10% off like Exelica's) that includes both.
Prices as follows...Game: 3,400円, $29.99, €28.99 / Soundtrack: 1,000円 $8.99, €8.79
But other than that, here's hoping they just use the script from the English Wii version for the English text, since the basis is already there, give or take.

I can't play this until Monday so I'm excited to hear anything about the port from you lot. (Is it brand new as implied or based on the older Windows version?)
Re: Castle of Shikigami III PC port - crowdfunding
Yes I’m also eager to hear how the port is
Re: Castle of Shikigami III PC port - crowdfunding
Interesting that the title is now 3 (number) instead of III (roman numeral), especially considering in the "About this game" section there are character cards that show the game title with roman numerals intact.

Yeah, there's quite a break with the rest of the key art for the game in those Steam banners too, which almost make it look like a visual novel sequel, heh. The new numbering is consistent with the Steam version of 2, I guess, but on the whole it's a messy aul bit of presentation...

The in-game text calls it III, so yeah, just more wacky inconsistencies.
Also, from watching a stream, the script is full of missing punctuation and generally bad grammar.

It's fine, translation wise, but yeesh, Shikigami deserves better. Definitely a massive step down from the Aksys script.

Shiki 3 (III?) tried to run from its destiny and be the one series entry that avoided a goofy-ass localization; just when it thought it was free and clear, fate stepped forth to put it back in its rightful place.

Re: Castle of Shikigami III PC port - crowdfunding
The port seems rock solid so far, except for the odd decision to favour the Director's Mode for the online rankings (I think the Arcade scores can still be accessed via the 'global leaderboard' community page, though). I haven't spent much time with it yet but I've been pleased to find that there is no screen-tearing on default settings (I have a fixed-refresh monitor and usually have to accept vsync in order to get things running smoothly), nor any of the graphical glitching I was never able to fix in the Steam version of 2. It does seem to be a genuinely new port, too, based neither on the 360 version nor the 2006 Windows one.
I love the way the Hi-Tension MAX system changes the whole emphasis of the game, creating a really satisfying push and pull between managing your resources (bombs/lives) and making the most of high-scoring sections. Too bad I can't remember any routing for it...

I found this particularly nostalgic:

Also, at least translate the result text, cowards.

No name entry / local score table, either. I've seen a few ports do this and it makes the games feel oddly chopped up. Is it more laborious to implement than everything else?

Their ""defense"" is that this is a port of the arcade version, not any of the console ports.

Ah that's an odd one - the console versions only brought their "Character Ranking" screen over from Type X!
