I think it´s got something to do with the fact that JS was a game entered into a contest sometime in 2000 or 2001. After winning this contest, the game was then coded by professionals into a commercial version and thus was born JS: Rebirth Edition.

Or so I´ve heard.(correct me if I´m wrong here)

There was also a "sequel" of sorts, Judgement Silversword: Cardinal Sins, released in connection with the Wonderwitch project, I believe.

Yep, I snagged a copy along with the new Megaman DS game. Man, the US dollar is really weak compared to the euro.

Good for you my man.
Prepare yourself for something extraordinary. And I´m not talking about Megaman here. :D

Holy crap does that suck.

Getting that game might have caused more bad than good anyways since I have no CrystalSwan anyway.

As mentioned, the first "Judgement Silversword" was a doujin shooter coded on the Wonderwitch. It went on to win the Wonderwitch contest, and was then released commercially as "Judgement Silversword - Rebirth Edition", of which there are now two print runs. "Judgement Silversword - Cardinal Sins" is a sequel/remix type thing that is only playable if you download it onto your Wonderwitch dev station.

Thanks for the clarification. In a nutshell, then, "Rebirth Edition" is the only "official" version of the game?

At least you can be thankful it's emulated.
However, the real deal would be far more satisfying.

I know, my Swan is starving for good games (besides my SRW games, a few SD Gundam Strat games, and One Piece SwanColl.). Someday it shall be mine (I hope)

So... I bought this game and I'm about to buy a Final Fantasy Wonderswan Crystal (I think... someone offered me one... and its the only WSC I've been offered thus far... so...).

At any rate, any other good non-Nihongo speaking games on this system? Or is this going to be the PC-FX part 2?

- Makaimura (G 'N G)
- Golden Axe
- Tetris
- Rainbow Islands
- Gunpey/Gunpey DX
- RUN=DIM
- Guilty Gear Petit 1&2
- Rhyme Rider Kerorikan
- Mr. Driller

Those are some other prominent game that don't require reading.

So yeah... its pretty much the PC-FX part 2.

Heh, I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be a FF Wonderswan Crystal + Judgement Silversword in the trading forum... unless I just become infatuated with JS.

Nope, you can get better versions of WS games pretty much anywhere although Monoeye Gundam is perhaps the best Gundam SRPG around.

And I see that you found the PC-FX's library limited, huh? Well, I must say that we did warn you...

I very much enjoy Zeroigar, Chip Chan Chick, Zenki, and one other game (kind of a platformer RPG).

Everything else though was a bust... :(

But the aforementioned games definitely made it worth it. :) I enjoy them. I still occassionally sit down and make a quick run through Zeroigar, I just love the boss fights in that game.

But yes, it was a very limited library and I really don't mess with it that much anymore. And with the WS being a portable... well... I just wouldn't see a point in keeping it unless I REAAAAAALLY love JS.

Did you ever get a game called Kokuu Hyouryo Nirgends? It's supposed to be part dating sim and part airplane shooter (not shmup). That might be doable without knowledge of Japanese.

Yes I own it and no it isn't very good and yes you need to know Japanese to really play it. Though I did play some of the dog fighting missions... which aren't very good.

OK, thanks for the impressions! :D Are the dog fighting missions similar to, say, G-LOC on the Genesis? That's what they look like from the back cover scan on pcenginefx.com Just wondering why you didn't like them.

In the event that I wish to get rid of mine would you like me to PM you?

I'd probably part with it for... $110 shipped (which is $20 less than I paid for it). Of course, this is assuming I do not like it. :P

PS Thanks Palmer
Here's hoping that Border Down goes into 150 territory. I still have a sealed copy! I wish I had double purchased Rajirugi, too, but I doubt it will get that high anytime soon.

And for the topic creator, congratulations on the Silversword find!

Judgement Silversword is emulated? I've never seen a rom for it anywhere.

Like JP, I am having a bit of buyers remorse. By the time I am done with currency conversions, shipping, and buying a swan crystal on ebay my purchase is up to around 180 bucks. Which is just nuts for a system with only one game on it. Oh well, the nice thing about our hobby is our purchases almost never decrease in value - infact they often increase.

The sidescrolling ARPG you're talking about has to be Last Imperial Prince. Great concept but damn, don't you think they made the battle ultra-repetitive? 10 fights in a row is pretty boring...

I like the PC-FX for its RPGs but it's sad that you can get better versions of most games elsewhere. Why get Der Langrisser FX when you can get Langrisser Dramatic Edition for SS? Why Blue Breaker when you can get the enhanced PS Blue Breaker? Why Boundary Gate when you can get the enhanced PS Boundary Gate? Why Fire Woman Matoigumi when you can get the enhanced PS Fire Woman Matoigumi? A sad fate for the little system that could...

Anyway, every WS game has been emulated.

Na... I'm not THAT big a fan of Last Imperial Prince.

I'm referring to Rulirulirulala or something like that.

Yeah jp, send me a PM in a month or so when I have money.

Although with what I'm hearing about the game, I doubt you'll want to sell it :)

Trust me there is a working rom and it plays quite well.
I'd say I agree with an earlier comment it being the best portable shooter to date I've played. Easy to pick up and inviting graphics, although the background is pretty basic. The controls are tight and it's a nice challenge time to time.
I'd like to own if I had a real career and time to kill every so often because then I could afford to purchase it and system and I'd have something to pick up and play anytime.

Wow, smack me silly. I always thought that was another one of those FMV-heavy graphical adventures. So I guess there's just 3 sidescrolling games on the PC-FX, huh? Or is there another one that hasn't been mentioned?
