Ibara art

Post by Daigohji »

That Reko sketch was a quick job, but this portrait of Teresa from Ibara is more indicative of the quality of my art at the moment (whatever that is :P). I spent about six hours on this one over the last couple of days. It's done entirely in Corel Painter IX with the Oils brushes and Oily Blender.

Feedback welcome.

I like the slightly "impressionist" style you used, it gives the picture a nice sense of movement and energy...I'll hafta get used to seeing Teresa with lips, though, since pretty much all the anime-style art of her up till now never gave her any, heh heh. The only real "complaint" (for lack of a better word) that I have about it is that her lower half looks a bit small compared to her upper half...the perspective might be a partial culprit here (assuming you were going for the same "coming out of the flower" effect that her official art has), but it doesn't quite work...overall proportions are improved over the Reko illustration you posted earlier though. Overall a nice job, hopefully you'll keep the artwork coming. :)

That's great! I like it that you are not conforming to the cookie-cutter anime conventions (like oversized eyeballs) and doing your own art. It's amazing to me how that painting program can mimick real oil paint so convincingly. Or you're just good at utilizing it. :)

Corel Painter is a program that never failed to impress me. As much as I dislike vector style illustrations I love how good Painter can mimik real painting and drawing tools - and their respective behaviour.

I like the painting, she looks very lifelike, but the background is a bit of a letdown - I would either make a more detailed background or just leave out that part, but the washy strokes look bad. But a good job nevertheless :)

Yeah, the viewer is supposed to be slightly above Teresa in this picture, looking down at her, but I guess that doesn't come across so well in her lower half. The way the folds of her dress narrow the line of her thighs accentuates the problem, I think. Plus she has those massive shoulder pads.

A mix of both, hopefully :D

Good point. The background was just supposed to be an amorphous wash to complement the colours of the character, but it's not great. I guess I'll either tone it down to a more watercolour style haze or redo it as a tangle of rose stems or something.

Thinking about it, Ibara kicks tons of ass style-wise, all over the place. The first time I saw movies of it, the combination of the erotic theme of the rose sisters versus the violent destruction that game brings just wowed me. And the announcer sounds totally cool. EEEEBARRRRAAAAHHHH! Artistic renderings of the sisters ships would rock, too. With those Raizing-explosion rings coming out of them. That would be totally buuumbaaah! :D

Thinking about it, more people prefer the boring generic forest landscape populated with bugs and a controllable, pantsless, 14-year old girl.

Go figure. ^_-

Good fanart by the way.

Methinks we have very different defintions of "boring" and "generic," heh heh. Since of course real creativity and excitement lies in cityscapes and a train level. :P ;)

Not to mention, something tells me it's not the scenery that scares some people away from Ibara. ;) Though if the HS topic is any indication, methinks the Rose sisters are holding their own just fine.

Now get to work on that ST, mister. ;)

No, no, no. You misunderstood me. With Ibara, the creativity isn't in the design of the graphics.
Its in THE DESTRUCTION OF EVERYTHING IN SIGHT. ^_-

Heh, on that point I concur: when it comes to destruction, it's tough to beat Ibara.

I still think Mushi looks good though. ;)

Good stuff D, like the eyes especially. It's tough to get those right.

Watch out for man hands, that alone could put you ahead of most internet fan art.
