Galaga for X360 Live Arcade - information inc. achievements
Although not a public release yet, Namco's fan favorite retro shmup is apparently beta testing on the XBL developer network. Of potential interest to competitive 360 players out there, here is a list of the award targets set by Namco for the game's Gamerscore Achievements, as reported this week by IGN.

FINALLY - I've been wondering when some of the new titles would hit test. Frogger and Scramble are high on my hit list.

That's all fine and good, but what I want to know is: How many points are added to your gamerscore when you get the enemies to stop firing?

FYI, new info suggests the updated release date of Galaga for the 360, will now be July 26

If this is a port and not emulation, there may be bugfixes.Ed Oscuro wrote:That's all fine and good, but what I want to know is: How many points are added to your gamerscore when you get the enemies to stop firing?

Those are all nice titles, but when the heck are we going to start seeing some rarer arcade games? Never? Shiest, if I could speak with the XBLA people, I could reccommend plenty of good unreleased shmups. Perhaps there's a way to contact them, or, heaven forbid, even some kind of suggestions form.bloodflowers wrote:FINALLY - I've been wondering when some of the new titles would hit test. I share your feelings on those games, and I'd also like to see Solvalou released. And see the folks at XBLA talk to Konami about Solar Assault and Namco about Solavlou-clearly they've been talking with both companies.sideshow wrote:I just cant believe Konami's Solar Assault never got a console port. Well this one ever be released? Or how about Planet Harriers, the latest in the Space Harrier franchise. Both games are arcade exclusive.

The implementation of Galaga Achivements turns out to be a failure in terms of rewarding skill, since they added a continue feature into Xbox 360 Galaga, allowing players to restart at the beginning of the highest stage they died on with a full stock of new ships. Even though thankfully it zeroes your score when continue, since all the Achievements are essentially progress-based rather than score-based, it makes a mockery of the Achivements by making them trivial to collect, unfortunately. No HD visual upgrades either.

Galaga is good, but I'd have liked to see Galaga '88 (my favorite, I love that triple ship) and Gaplus included with this to sweeten the deal. All three of these games together as part of a package going for 1000 MS Points would've got me sold.
What we really need is to have the Namco Classics Arrangement titles ported over to 360- Galaga, Xevious, Rally-X, Pac-Man, Mappy, and Dig Dug. At least we did get some of these in Namco Museum for PS2/Xbox/GC.

Definitely, well implemented 2P online co-op play for Galaga Arrangement '95 has so much potential.gameoverDude wrote:What we really need is to have the Namco Classics Arrangement titles ported over to 360- Galaga, Xevious, Rally-X, Pac-Man, Mappy, and Dig Dug. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/721/721560p1.html So, in the future it seems that XBLA players aren't going to get anything, in terms of arcade games, that they can't already play on a million other formats.
Oh wait-Arcade Contra and Super C are coming out-that's two.
