Jeneki wrote: Fri Nov 08, 2024 3:33 pm Related to getting that 500k, I guess you can afk farm enemies in survival if you play on easy.

1) Purple upgrades for regeneration and plasma that locks on to stuff in any direction. Orange upgrades for all the defense abilitles and missiles. Whatever you think will help most in the last two slots.
2) Find a spot away from any spawned miniboss. Lean something on your controller's right stick to keep the 3-way plasma shooting.
3) Go to sleep / work / whatever. Profit!

100k enemies in ~8 hours letting it run. Maybe would have went longer if I used a ship with a better survival passive.

One point of danger though, if the starfish boss decides to show up it will very, very slowly move across the map towards you. And then start spawning more and more bosses around it if you don't do something about it.

The requirement in the achievement page requires Normal difficulty or higher, sad to say :(

This is very funny, I'm glad I simply forgot this game existed. This is the game Raiden fans deserve.

On that note:

Fuck off. Raiden V is their best game, and the best not-Fighters Raiden game.

Isn't this a made-up word? I don't think there's any hard rule on how to spell it. I understand it's an Ultraman reference, but... wouldn't the same apply there?

I was under the impression that it's always been Miclus until now.

There's a lot of goofy Engrish in this game so I wouldn't sweat the Miclus.
I mean, this game can't even spell bomb the same way twice.

Has anyone tried the Raiden 1 ship yet? It has an extra special undocumented ability: it always dies in one hit. Screw your hp and defense upgrades, you're playing oldschool now. :)

Thread title did make me lol, but in reality I'm not quite so down on this - was never expecting traditional Raiden (and honestly? I'm not mad on 4 or 5), and as a weird hybrid of twin-stick shooter and Vampire Survivors, I don't hate it. If you're looking for something to properly sink your teeth into long-term though I get it's definitely not that though; I'm at the same point as a few of you seem to be now, which is having done most everything except to destroy 500,000 enemies, and I can't say I feel sufficiently challenged or particularly fussed enough to grind that out.

I had fun with it for a couple of hours, then promptly proceeded to forget I even bought it. It wasn't a bad idea, but needed to be fleshed out a lot more to remain interesting.

Micras or Miclus? Bombs or Boms? The difference falls within normal Engrish variation margins.

However, Zero Wing, Radiant Silvergun and Donpachi were published about 35 years ago; nowadays there might be a correlation between not knowing languages and not knowing how to make a good game.

In case anyone is interested, I'm seeing the game (PC version) at 70% off on various stores (more, if you are an XP user on Green Man Gaming, or a Humble Choice subscriber on Humble):

https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/raiden-nova-pc/
https://www.humblebundle.com/store/raiden-nova-nova
https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/raiden-nova

I ended up getting the game at GMG, for 76% off (less than 7€).
The game looked really unappealing, but for this price, I went for it. I hope I can at least get a couple hours of enjoyment out of it. :)

I also noticed both PlayStation and Switch shops has Raiden Nova on discount. While the PS Store has Raiden Nova and Raiden V Director's Cut on 60% discount, only the Switch shop has the mentioned two and Raiden IV x Mikado Remix in 70% off.

Did anyone notice or care that there was a patch for this a few days ago? It added some music. That's about it.

I've been considering reevaluating this game recently after not playing it since a few days after it launched. I'll probably still hate it, but I'm willing to try it again.

I still have not played Raiden II or V. Maybe I should do that eventually.

III and IV are indeed the best ones I have played so far, and by a significant margin. Might like Viper Phase 1 if I play it more, but unsure about it now having only dabbled for a short time.

Sadly... I always felt Raiden never did 3D very well ~_~"... for looks, always preferred II over anything newer. But, never actually played III so maybe gameplay is better @_@?~

Yeah Raiden DX (which I think has mostly or exactly the same graphics as II) has absolutely beautiful graphics. The 3D Raiden games... don't lol.

But III in particular is a solidly designed game for sure. No weird scoring like IV, no cheap crap deaths with terrible recovery like I and DX (and I'm guessing II as well), and no need for extra eyeballs to read a meaningless HUD like V apparently has going on. It's also the easiest Raiden I have played by far. Still like IV more, but III is good and probably the better game. III's music is not very good (lol stage 2 bootleg Vampire Killer), but III Mikado somewhat fixes that if you want it to. Just hope you don't encounter the flash shot glitch that they probably never fixed.

Did not even hear of DX before! I will go find it now lol! Just read Wiki looks very interesting!~

Never was biggest fan of Raiden, but, I will always remember... it was my roots and without it maybe I will not even be here typing this >.<!~

DX is supposedly quite a different game from II. Sometimes you'll see people saying it's an updated version of II, and the PCB actually saying RAIDEN II DX on it probably doesn't help, but supposedly they are quite different.

DX is a strange game because it's really three different games, each with their own different stages, scoring mechanics, etc. all on one PCB, with training mode being the easiest for survival (it's very easy with autofire; even I can clear it) but the hardest for scoring. Kind of cool that it's three games in one like that. It's still bullshit hard outside of the training course, though, and it has no score extends, so dying once is extremely bad and maybe a run ender. It should still have at least one extend item somewhere, but I've never seen any.

For £24 this game would be a bit of a rip-off but I bought it this week in the sale for about £7 and have just finished it. I quite liked it. But I generally like twin-stick shooters and games with a bit of a Vampire Survivors perk system. It's not great but it's inoffensive enough. I think calling it Raiden anything was the mistake.

The Raiden name is probably why most people bought it in the first place, and it probably would have been completely forgotten by now without it. I remember when Activision decided to not put the Call of Duty name on Modern Warfare 2 and nobody knew what it was until Activision relented and put the Call of Duty title there where it should have always been.

But yeah, I don't really think this particularly needed to be a Raiden game at all other than to get it to sell.

Adds the soundtracks of all the main five Raiden games (Raiden DX is omitted).
Unfortunately, the music doesn't loop appropiately to fit the stage length, instead it fades out after 2-3 minutes, then a three second silence and then the track starts all over.
It also adds a new engrish to the list: "Secret Cave(STSGE 2)".

You'd think that they'd be able to figure out audio looping... the 2011 Sonic CD remake had a cool thing that it implemented for that. Then of course the Sonic Origins version got rid of that.

The music from II is in DX in the novice course, right? Or something like that. I've only played novice course once and I don't remember anything about it at all. My brain wants to say that Tragedy Flame is from II, but I can't remember. I'll have to go check and probably be wrong.

You got part of that right. There's themes from Raiden II in DX, but also arrangements of Gallantry, Rough and Tumble and Fighting Thunder.
