classic series composer Go Sato is producing/overseeing the soundtrack, with Hagane, Makoto Shozu, Takeshi Iwasaki on board to compose; they're going for an orchestral style, apparently influenced in part by Nier orchestra stuff

I really like twin stick shooters but Raiden Nova looks bloody dreadful.

And Raiden V? I found it awful hard to see the enemies never mind the bullets.

Interesting, seems like they are sticking with a similar music style as Raiden V. Hopefully Go Sato returns to compose Raiden 6, whenever that releases

If the music is in the same vein as Raiden V, then I am perfectly OK with it. I’d argue V has one of the best scores ever written for a shmup.

Definitely looking more on the Vampire Survivors side of things with all the leveling up and picking out of upgrades.

I'd probably give this a go as a fun little gaiden thing, if it ends up on Steam. Halls of Torment was good, so I'm open to an STG-inspired rendition of the idea.

it actually looks so fuckin funny and weird but not in a good way. I think it's the the enemies just bee lining it for the ship that's making me feel odd
but I'm not cancelling my preorder

It’s nice to see that all the aircraft featured in the concept art book for the Switch version of Raiden V actually made it to this game as playable. I’m really liking the stealth looking one, hopefully some of these become plastic model kits in the future

This is comically stupid. It's very rare to be excited for a game to be "so bad it's good" but this is on that list. What a mess.

The R-Type Final / Dariusburst approach to ships is kind of appealing. Though the DB vibe is a bit more pervasive, I think - there's an air of quirky PSP game about it. The RIC RIPER is perhaps a little blatant :)

The slow early game is what gets me in that footage - a couple of zako here and there, but plenty of margin to sip coffee and check twitter while the main attack force gradually makes its way over

I hope a full power pink toothpaste laser is allowed to just go nuts and encompass the whole 360 degree screen here, could be hilarious to watch.

Western release date is October 31, same as Japan, and Steam is getting it too.

There's that PC version that I saw at the event. This was faster than I expected. Didn't it take them like a year to do the overseas version of one of the Mikado games? Tempted to cancel my PaperweightStation 5 preorder, but it depends on whether or not that soundtrack is available on the PC version. Judging by the Mikado games both having them, that seems likely. Maybe they'll even put it in as a bunch of .wav files for free like they did on III x Mikado so you don't have to buy it at all! That would be cool.

If this game had another name and not RAIDEN, maybe it would have been better, especially since Raiden has always been synonymous with "classicism".

Steam page is finally up, less than a week before launch, but the price is still unknown. I was beginning to wonder if this was going to be delayed indefinitely like Raiden III was, but maybe not this time.

Yes it’s playable. It was playable in Raiden V. It’s just black because it hasn’t been purchased yet. All the other planes that appeared in the art book for the Switch version of Raiden V are also playable in this game for the first time as well

Ah fuck I forgot to cancel my PS5 preorder and it already shipped. God damn it. Maybe Amazon will let me return it...

Maybe I'll keep it just for the soundtrack. Not sure what I will do, but I'll figure it out somehow.

I am an incorrigible raker and sifter of the PS4 slopfields, and I will gladly let you all know if City Connection or Moss left behind anything valuable in their latest discharge into the content heap.

Just you wait till tomorrow.

Three reasons, really:

1. trying to save money right now, partially because of reason 2
2. I just (and finally) bought a Raiden DX PCB from a friend two days ago and those things are expensive and I'd rather play DX than this
3. PC version exists now, so there's no point in playing on consoles

It still hasn't arrived yet (and neither has my Raiden DX PCB) but it will be here today and I guess I might as well play it, although somewhat reluctantly. Impressions once I get it, I guess. If I decide that I like it enough to want handheld mode, which is entirely possible, I'll probably check out the PC version eventually™.

Edit: game get
Image

It's smaller than I expected...

Will play after I consume some sustenance. Placing a bet now: there will be a day-1 patch. Hopefully I am wrong.

Edit 2: day-1 patch. Fuck you MOSS

Edit 3: I don't like this game. It's boring and the music sucks. That's all I really have to say.

That sucks to hear but it was expected given Moss' recent track record. Cover artwork is fire though.

Yeah, the box art is sadly the best part of the game. I wish I was joking, but I'm not.

It might have been better if the game was actually super terrible, because then I could laugh at it for being junk, but it's not. It's just boring and not fun to play. I got to stage 4 on my first attempt and just gave up and quit because it wasn't fun. Tried the endless mode, lasted for 30 minutes with no effort, and then decided to give myself a game over by ramming into a boss just to make it stop.

Yeah. Don't bother with this thing. It's not worth it.

PC is probably the best anyway because you can check it out for a little while and then either keep it if you want it or refund it and get your money back and use that money to buy some cheeseburgers or cat food or Crimzon Clover or whatever. I ate cat food once because I was curious. It was... interesting, unlike this game.
