... To me it sounded a bit like a 'please understand...' kind of thing ... we'd like to, but the answer is no - either because we can't without changing it, or we're not allowed to....
It's because it was apparently pretty flawed. IIRC EXA Arcadia didn't pick it up for arcade release for a few technical reasons, the resolution was too low, and the game itself might not have been that remarkable. I believe it was the side project of one guy, which is why it's lain dormant since then. It wasn't any kind of core release for M2.

This year was one of those odd birthdays where a bunch of friends and family sent money. So I’m probably going to order the collection disc. Is everything included, or are there downloads/patches that add meaningful content? If so I’ll consider something else.

I've never seen title updates for the Aleste Collection on Switch to be honest and I played it as is for a solid year and a half on a Switch that wasn't connected to the internet. Had a blast with it, no issues.

Thanks! That’s exactly what I was looking for. I’ll add it to my order then.

You said disc, you're looking at the Playstation version right? I haven't played that, only the NS one, but I haven't heard of any reported issues or patches for it to make it playable (compared to other shmups like SDOJ where patches addressed stuff like inconsistent slowdown that was notoriously bad on initial release).

It had two patches. Both only have some smaller corrections and none of them are gameplay related.

Personally, I'm OK with M2 taking their time on things. If contracting work pays the bills, they have my blessing.
It's been so sad to see the epic studios go under. I want them to thrive and then in their spare time be the insane group of people that make Fantasy Zone 2 arcade boards :P

Everyone should own Aleste Collection! As 3 of the 5 games are designed for a low res portable, I might recommend considering the Switch version as it kind of makes for a more natural home for them.

but the Aleste Collection...on PS4...on a 50 inch TV...would it be shit?
the only thing that stops me from getting it is that it's clearly designed for Switch in reality...

I had fun playing it on PS4. But I almost never play on portables.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Or for the Game Gear Mini they released with the LE:

Seriously though, it's perfectly fine on a larger screen. Aleste & Power Strike II in the collection were Master System games, so it's not like there aren't any home console games there.

I will say this, unless you A) don't own a Switch at all or B) are hypersensitive to that one extra frame of input delay (which I'm thinking Switch 2 will get rid of if the powered dock rumours are true), buying physical for Switch instead of PlayStation will generally pay off better down the line. The Switch version (CIB at least, I don't know who's buying loose PS4 discs) is already significantly more valuable despite the fact that I'm sure there are more copies of it out there:

Never selling mine though.

They look great. Three of the games are Game Gear games, and they look fine even with large pixel to screen size ratios (Vastynex looks great too, right? ;) ), and two of the games were originally home console games intended to be viewed on a television.

my eyes absolutely hurt trying that thing at a friend's place, it's playable, but not enjoyable, it's way too small xD

The Aleste one came with a magnifier, did he have that?

Either way the ergonomics look terrible though, it's why I just went with the version that came with the Aleste History book instead.

No, I was just asked to try it and handed it as-is, without the magnifier on it, wasn't aware there was one! The controls are actually quite solid, like as good or better than stock Game Gear? But the screen is just so tiny, that magnifier likely would've helped. :P Seems to make it much closer to the original GG's screen size.

Hah, that's incredible  undercut the GBA micro on screen size, then fix it with dubious nostalgia!

Imagine they sold a bundle of the PS5 Pro with Aleste Branch. PS5 Pro and the controller both with a special Aleste Branch design. Or the same thing with Truxton Extreme

That was the most convincing comment...the problem is that now i'll probably play Vastynex and not Aleste

My disc is finally here. I’ll probably jump into GG3 tonight at least. I have 4 games in the order so it’s going to be a fun weekend sampling all this stuff.

Late to the party, but chiming in here that the Aleste Collection feels totally fine on TV, including the Game Gear games. It is pretty well suited to Switch portable play too, it feels great on a Switch Lite!

Also, I have the Game Gear Micro and it is indeed a LOT easier to see with the Big Window magnifying glass that came with it. The d-pad and buttons on the GG Micro are shockingly not bad either! But obviously, this is more of a fun curiosity than the ideal form factor for playing the games seriously.

Crazy that it's been nearly 6 years now since Aleste Branch was unveiled. I wonder how long ago it started planning/development.

“All of the titles that were supposed to be announced (or even released) this year have slid into next year, so 2025 should be a fun and exciting year for those who follow M2’s games. Unexpected titles (or games) might or might not appear from unexpected places. When I say they might not, I’m taking into account the possibility of the company exploding, but at least the ones that have gone gold should be released, right? (So don’t worry too much.)”

Visuals seem washed out and generally not as nice looking as what we saw previously imo, but maybe I just need to see more current-build screens. Should still be fun either way.

Seems M2 has shared an update for their 2025 projects:

Some Aleste Branch footage, but the other stuff outside of Night Gear seems a soundtrack?
