Got my order in. Wish the cartridge wasn't green and more like their releases of Gaiares and Sol-Deace, but I'll make do.
Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
Retro-Bit modern Megadrive/Genesis releases are on another level when it comes to quality. I can’t wait to put this in with my other Retro-Bit gems.
My instincts say we may be inching towards a Musha release one day as all the big hitters are falling like ducks. Fingers crossed

i wonder why they can't make JP versions? I've heard the JP manufacturer is worse.
Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
Odd thing is the Retro-Bit Gleylancer's manual and game are both bilingual with English and Japanese, despite not having the notch for JP systems. The text even changes on the fly if a region switch is flipped.

What cool news! Absolutely love this game with all my heart. Sold my JP original many years ago after playing the tape out of it. IMHO its the best 16 bit horiz. space shooter ever made.
I wonder if the original game devs get any cut of the new sales?

55 dollars or 70 eurobucks? What's up with that stupid pricing...
Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
You must not know what the original goes for. That fact alone makes this a steal. But besides that, this game is a good game in its own right. I would gladly pay 55 bucks on a good 16-bit shooter over paying 70 on a AAA game with 7 hours of gameplay, then never touch again.ChurchOfSolipsism wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 2:00 pm 55 dollars or 70 eurobucks? Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
It's more that 70eur is ~76usd. Quite a difference with 55usd. I think they just charge tax and postage from the US. Might as well just order from the US.

What AAA game has 7 hours of gameplay... sounds more like an indie game. Anyway, I paid 20 Euros for each Limbo and Inside, both of which give you 4 hours each at best. It was totally worth it in both cases....Gamer707b wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 4:28 pmYou must not know what the original goes for. That fact alone makes this a steal. Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
I haven't bought AAA in a long time, unless you count the occasional Nintendo game, but the last AAA game I played was Call Of Duty a few years back. It was years since I play COD and thought I'd "try something different". I also remember playing whatever new Assassins Creed just came out and it was so buggy, that I stopped playing. Felt completely ripped off. I finally realized that these big budget games and companies were the exact opposite of what I wanted out of gaming. Anyway, my point stands the same. I would gladly pay $55 on a game I'll get tons of replay out of. Good day.ChurchOfSolipsism wrote: ↑Tue Jan 09, 2024 11:32 pmWhat AAA game has 7 hours of gameplay... sounds more like an indie game. I personally have no problem with this kind of pricing if the company can show some of it goes to the people who made the game...ChurchOfSolipsism wrote: ↑Mon Jan 08, 2024 2:00 pm 55 dollars or 70 eurobucks? What's up with that stupid pricing...
What frustrates me a bit is when companies go digging around for old games selling for high prices on the used market, and bank on a "re-release" when all they have is some publishing legal rights that have nothing to do with the devs anymore.
The Gleylance re-release at least hired the original box artist to make a new design. That was cool

Alternatively, you have OSTs where composers are finally getting thei due credit for their awesome work. I bought the signed copy of Ketsui and it's terrific:
https://limitedrungames.com/products/ke ... nyl-signed
but if a place doesn't indicate they're supporting the devs in some way, I see no reason to give them my money.

In actuality, that's how Intellectual Property functions : the people who developed those things - the IP, very rarely do they get much of a cut because they are contracted and salaried to produce the work. Once that work is produced, well, it benefits the IP holder and few if anyone else.
As such, no individual programmer or artist benefits once that contract has been paid out.
Personally, I don't see any issue in buying a reprint if I like the title.
If a musician owns the rights and can receive some renumeration from sales and releases then by all means do that.
I can't see this argument of "but the original developers won't get paid and benefit" - well exactly: that's not how most business arrangements are set up unless the developer/programmer/artist/etc. can bring something into it that benefits them at the contract stage, otherwise, they got paid once and that's the end of it.

I'm aware of how intellectual property laws work. If you read my post, I gave 2 examples that directly benefited the artists involved in the original game(s).MintyTheCat wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 11:52 am In actuality, that's how Intellectual Property functions : the people who developed those things - the IP, very rarely do they get much of a cut because they are contracted and salaried to produce the work. There are plenty of ways to do that nowadays, 30+ years later. Many companies are doing it, which I think is really cool. Heck, if companies are too cheap to do it financially, they could include a pamphlet from the dev, or bios of the people who made the game, or even just the original company that made the game (in this case, Soft Vision, which I know almost nothing about).
Another example of doing this right: https://youtu.be/yCNSy5KCD20?t=691
The ones that aren't doing this, but are just some corp that purchased the rights to an old game license and are charging 55USD for "intellectual property"? I'm not interested in that.

Hello all,
a mate of mine, my old gaming partner from eons ago missed out on the pre-order.
He lives in the UK.
Does anyone know where he might buy a copy of the reprint? I have asked DragonShop over in Germany if they will have further copies but ideally somewhere in the UK is preferred.
Cheers.

Your friend can order one through the https://arcadedreams.se site: it's priced at 799 sek (about $76.00+ usd) though (Swedish Krona currency). I am not sure what valid credit cards are accepted as payment in Sweden -- upon further inspection, they'll gladly accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Klarna and Swish as preferred methods of payment. Your friend shouldn't wait/procrastinate too long as such availability is quite hard to come by, especially nowadays, with most places already booked up/sold out months ago. There are a couple sites online still accepting pre-orders but they'll sell out quickly just as well -- it's either that or just "bite the bullet and pay through the nose" by paying even more for an original Japanese MD copy of Eliminate Down.

Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
These are being shipped now. I received mine on Monday.
The packaging is quite fancy, if not ridiculous.
The lenticular slipcover is quite vivid and effective. I've never seen one with such 3D depth.
It is first packaged in an outer bag, then a protective clear case which also has a graphic sticker on it, then the slip cover, then the standard clamshell case.
The full color manual is printed on that sort of plastic paper that other Chinese releases have used. All artwork is clean and clear, though nothing new. The typography and layout are competently done, much better than SLG or LRG's own products.
The cartridge is garish, but looks quality. Clear emerald green plastic with glints of silver reflective tinsel dispersed. The cartridge label decals are perfectly applied and seem of decent quality.
No problem inserting into my old Mega Drive. ...not too tight at least. I didn't even think to look if it is beveled, but they advertised that they would be.
My only complaint besides the ridiculous looking cartridge, is that the clear outer sleeve of the clamshell case is sort of a smoky-clear and it already scratched from sliding it out of the slipcover, seems it will scratch heavily after frequent use.
The game plays great as we'd expect. Glad to add this to my collection to replace the prior DIY one I got from the Nolan Bros all those years ago on Retro Gaming Roundtable forum.

Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
I don't suppose that manual gives names for bosses after the fifth stage? Well, the very last boss is obviously the Amulet Monster, but between that and Dual Medes/Medeth's fights, the original manual wasn't forthcoming.
Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
That's a negative.
My guess is the manual doesn't add anything that wasn't in the original.
Round 1 boss is "Rotator"
Round 2, Fullmetal
Round 3, Chimera
Round 4, Gold Guardian
Round 5, Dual Medes
Round 6, "the massive eye observer"
Round 7, "a giant armed creature"
Round 8, Amulet Monster
Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
Hm. I don't think I saw Chimera in the original manual. The mid-boss (Iron Three), yes. But I also see a few names were adjusted--St.1 was originally Around Circle, St. 2 Full Metal Ship, St. 4 Yellow Armor.

My copy arrived the other day and we managed to get a second copy from my gaming partner going back to my 20s.
Next time I'm in the UK I'll post it along to him.
Overall presentation is pretty nice.
Now I need to find the time to put some playtime into E-D - it's getting hard to find the time

Re: Reminder: Eliminate Down cartridges become available outside of Japan and Korea soon
Got my copy yesterday. As usual with Limited Run Games, I had this preordered so long ago that I completely forgot about it in the meantime.
Package is nice, although I'd have been fine with just a reproduction of the original.
Didn’t have much time to spend on the game yet and only got to the stage 2 boss.
Honestly, I’m not yet sure what to make of this game. I appreciate the enormous variety within the stages, but there are some decisions I find decidedly odd, such as the random nature of the visual feedback regarding hitting enemies or the total lack of animation on the player sprite. Also, I haven't been in a situation where the missile weapon would have been of any use whatsoever, while the front and back shot both got plenty of use.
On an aesthetical level, the music seems to lack bass, is it supposed to sound like that?

Music wise, it's worth noting that this is one of very few MD games where the music is 100% FM. No SN7 and no PCM. So, it tends to sound "dirtier" than most of the library. I quite like it myself.

cool anecdote. If you get dirty enough you come out clean

This game is a masterpiece, but it's hard for anything to live up to the hype of a $1000 price tag. I got my copy back when it was $100-$300, which was already a lot.
