Music in game, at least for me, is an ESSENTIAL part of the experience!!! I can't play a game with bad music..or that i don't like, same thing for aesthetics.
I love the Fernet Branca !!!
oops..paying......still...i purchase albums that have a certain percentage of songs that i like, otherwise, i skip them.
The problem is that there are less and less "album" and more singles...

Re: Paying for Music
I only buy Hi-res formats most of the time.
Blu ray - Pure audio
SACD
DVDA
I bought equipment that can play all that shit so I want the best I can get. It suits older bands like Pink Floyd.
They also support surround like 5.1/Atmos which is always an adventure in itself.
There are websites that allow the download of Hi res music as well. I tried it once and its all good.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Re: Paying for Music
I recently asked myself this and there's nothing reputable outside of a Walkman (a glorified Android phone with a proprietary charging port for some stupid reason) and crazy high-end devices. Tonnes of cheap uselessly small capacity devices from no-name brands that'll probably die or catch fire.BareKnuckleRoo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 7:35 pm Speaking of MP3s, does anyone have any good recommendations on MP3 players? I have a very old one that's worked perfectly but in case it dies I was going to see about upgrading to one with more space. I don't generally use my phone for MP3s because I'm pretty aggressive about listening to music and suddenly having my phone be low on battery is more inconvenient to me as I use it for more than music than having to recharge my MP3 player.
I still listen to everything in MP3 rather than FLAC as I don't really notice a quality difference. Does that make me uncultured? ^^;
Phone and SD card is the way forward, I run VLC player for mp3s and a few hours of music barely dents the battery. If you're happy to carry a second device, grab a low end Nokia (they run stock Android and pack hefty batteries) in lieu of a dedicated mp3 player.

Re: Paying for Music
Thanks for the info everyone! I wish my car stereo supported FLAC as I'd try to make a switch but it doesn't, so that's part of the reason I stick with MP3s... that and I can't tell a difference. ;w; Maybe someday I'll splurge and try a high-end music player or get a low end phone for the purpose which is a good idea!
Re: Paying for Music
Anyone tried Tidal for streaming/digital download? I've had a Bandcamp account for years, languishing with barely a handful of artists favourited. Now I revisit and find a surprising lack of mainstream artists or their albums on there.

Re: Paying for Music
I've been using a very similar model to this one for years without any problems at all, but admittedly I don't expect that much from an mp3-player (like organising my music libraries into different genres etc., I mainly listen to podcasts and hand-picked youtube videos). It does have blutooth (which drains the battery rather quickly, I have to say). Also, it's made from metal and I've dropped mine on concrete at least half a dozen times and it's still good as new.BareKnuckleRoo wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 7:35 pm Speaking of MP3s, does anyone have any good recommendations on MP3 players?

I have a fiio m6 (mp3 player/dac) that I really like that I bought for $120, and I was able to load a last.fm scrobbler onto it to continue tracking listens (I've been tracking plays since 2005). The UI is a little slow, but that's more of a gripe than an issue.
it does play FLAC files too if you did care about that
