I can see the bullets all the time, it's just some of the ships are really hard to control because they move rediculously fast. That's not to say I don't like it. I love the game, it's just some of the ships aren't to my playstyle.

Asking a Raizing fanboy (like myself) if you should get Batrider is like asking my 3 year old daughter if she would like to watch Dragon Tales for the 10th time that day.

Response: "Yes, of course, why do you ask such a silly question, Daddy? It is the greatest cartoon I have seen or ever will see!"

But I agree with BM. Try in MAME, if possible, before you buy. Make sure it is what you are looking for in a shmup and then if you likey, then whip out the credit card and charge away. You will not regret it. I have played this silly old game time and time again, when I could easily pop in DDP:DOJ, Galuda, or Ibara, for some serious action. You will never see another shmup like Batrider, that is guaranteed!

Oh..... , so I guess I could have just said yay!

Surprised to see someone bash Bakraid over graphics - it may have fewer visual effects than most of their games, but damn - it's absolutely crystal clear with what's going on.
Cigs is right, you're Wrong about Batrider (OMG Heretic!!11) so I shouldn't say, but I remember someone mentioning in the past that Bakraid's bullets become *literally* invisible at points due to hardware limitations...even with the generous amount of extends that's pretty weak.

But I don't know how often, etc. hopefully the original poster will see this topic.

That`s why there are so many of them to choose from. I usually select a single ship because I want to get used to it - some are extremely fast as Miyamoto or that...blonde....sunglasses whatever dude (the one next to strawman I suppose) but others can be REALLY slow but have huge, screen clearing weapons. I suppose using a slow ship will get you in a lot of trouble later on since you will have to lure all those aimed shots to have a remot chance of surviving  .And then again, you can always select them with pressing C, so the weapons and the options get powered up and the ship slows down a little. I found many of them too fast too but now that I got used to it I don`t wanna play shmups with slow ships anymore. :)

But seriously, a resounding chime-in for Batrider--I love it
You bomb flamingoes in Batrider too, don`t you know? Level 1, destroying the shed before you tip over the huge sign. That´s actually another thing I like about Batrider - it`s self-references, Black Heart, Bashinet and all those other freaks. Not that I ever played Mahou or something but I still like that "all-stars" setup.
EH?!? HORY crap, I do not remember ever seeing that! Methinks I have a weekend project now...thanks for the tip

Okay, just remember to destroy the house behind the big sign AND THEN tip over the big sign, it will then fall on the house and birds will come out. Quite hectic to time it right and not being killed by those nasty flying snipers. :D

Offhand I can't recall ever having that sort of thing happen, at least when playing on MAME...even if it does happen, it's at least the fault of the hardware and not sadistic designers who you can almost hear shouting a Chipp Zanuff-esque "Find-uh-me!" in your ear as you play. :P ;)

Just to clarify, you don't bomb the birds. Destroy the building first, then the sign and the birds come out. Then you just shoot them.

Destroying the building and sign with the aura instead of the shot gets you more points as well.

The bullets don't go invisible in mame. I played the ROM quite a bit before I bought the board and was surprised when it happened. To my knowledge (since I've never played completely through the advanced course), it only happens twice; once after blowing up the first form of the water levels boss and on the big tank at the end of the railroad stage.

Odd that this topic would appear. I'm going to get another board and Batrider is the one I'm leaning towards due to it being a pretty sweet game and being fairly cheap.
Feedback will set you free.

Ah, well... you don`t get as much point as bombing the stuff at the very beginning of the stage and the underground subway shortly after. It certainly isn`t as crucial as in Garegga I am afraid. Either way you can still bomb the birds but your bomb stock will be empty since the aforementioned bombing spots. In a replay Icarus picked up many little fragments from the cars after the shed and bombed them with it in short bursts; I am not so much into the game to tell much difference here.

I will save all my sheckels (read:bomb fragments) for the glorious nuking I plan on giving those birds. Just for old times sake, you understand (I am NOT sick!)

Batrider is great, it's my fav raizing game by far.

And I prefer playing it just for fun indeed... when I found out the game had so many secret ways to score, I begun to get annoyed by the game.

Only recently I found out the game starts at max ranking, it means I probably always played the game at max ranking, as I just started it out in Mame (Or Raine a few years ago) and played the game..

Still I managed to 1CC the game a few times in NORMAL mode. I actually managed to 1CC the game playing on Raine, without sound, running at like 15 frames per second, and probably max ranking :)

How do I make rank goes down? Could I start up the game, press F10 in Mame to speed up emulation and just wait a few minutes?

I was having additional input lag problems with my mame setup at the time without realizing it, so I wasn't quite exaggerating, for my case...it was pretty bad, although people managed to 1cc Batrider and Garegga. I haven't tried the newer mame builds which according to the changelogs have improved on it.
