RGB modding a Magnavox 23MT2336/17

Post by TetsuoXLI »

How would I go about modding something like this that has no service manual on the internet and has no modding guide.

Is this even a decent TV? It's a 2006 Magnavox. I'm sure it's no Trinitron but it was free on the side of the road so...

Any help would be appreciated.

Open it up and see if there's a chassis model number. Might find a service manual for a different model that uses the same chassis. If that doesn't work, look for the ICs on the chassis and search their model numbers for datasheets.

2006 is fairly late-model for CRTs. Could be an integrated uC/Jungle which wouldn't be muxable.

I found it!

Is muxing a specific way to RGB mod so that you can still use OSD while in RGB mode? Are late CRTs like this one more desirable or less?

TMPA8859 jungle cannot be modded for RGB.

If the TV doesn’t have svideo and/or component they should be able to be added.

It has component so I'll just stick with that until I can find something that's RGB modable, or just a nice Trinitron. (of course a pvm or bvm is the end goal)

Thanks for the help!

It isn't RGB moddable but that drawback is more or less nullified by the fact that is has factory component inputs. For sure a keeper.

Thanks for the information. By the way there is a website called PartStore that claims to have parts for this CRT (I was hoping to replace the housing)

Here's the link:

https://partstore.encompass.com/model/MAG23MT2336%7C17

Does this look legit to you? I talked to a representative who told me that the parts would be in stock soon and I could purchase them. This seems a little suspicious for a 15 year old TV.

Must of what's available are just components like capacitors. Nothing specific to a CRT TV. The more obscure parts, like the Rear Cabinet Assembly, are listed as not available for backorder.

Ok I see. The representative must have misunderstood when I asked them.

Thanks.

Component video quality on Philips TVs is clean and perfect. There's absolutely no need to mod for RGB, just get a transcoder and you'll be good.
