Top loader NES RGB Scart problem

Post by Robothug »

I got my NES Top loader modded a few years ago and the color goes in and out because of the cable attached to the SCART cable.
(Yes I know that sounds strange)

The guy who modded it built it so two cables are plugged into the back of the Scart cable.
I've never seen anything like it.
I used to be able to wiggle the cable and the color would fix, but lately its been stuck.

(The Sky blue cable is the main problem)

Does anyone know how to fix/replace this?
Is there any way I can scrap this and turn it into Component instead?

That's the official NESRGB cable kit, so not something the installer did. I also found them to be unreliable and finicky. The DIN cable was very poorly made (the connector wasn't even on straight and hot glue was sticking out) and the audio cable didn't make good contact. My solution was to buy the Framemeister adapter from RGC (https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/mic ... r-for-sale) since it uses the same connector, tweak the pinout to match the NESRGB, and also I modified my NESRGB install to route the audio out over the din connector too, and then I just used a standard SCART-to-SCART cable to connect to my switch. It worked much better. This of course requires soldering. But then, all solutions will require soldering.

If you do want to revamp it, there are various options. You could do what I did (or something similar using a full-length cable that ends in SCART), you could install the official component mod for the NESRGB (https://etim.net.au/shop/shop.php?crn=2 ... how_detail), or you could replace the DIN connector with a Nintendo-style one, like with the Voultar kit: https://www.laserbear.net/products/voul ... 2001677524

All these solutions would require soldering, of course. Even if you convinced somebody to make you a new SCART cable, there isn't any audio routed to the DIN connector on your NES.

I'll go with that Component Mod.
...do you know anyone that can do it after I buy this?

I'll email that guy Tim right now.

Tim is the one who designs/manufactures the NESRGB. He ships from Australia, you may want to look into one of his distributors that might be closer. I think he also lists approved installers there too.

Not for nothing, that is a seriously impressive setup, at least from the rear!

Thx
I'm thinking of changing the setup a little bit.
I dont like the XBox or the Xbox 360.
2 worthless systems that sound like airplanes.

I'm trying to see which systems I can replace them with.
I'm thinking a TurboGrafx with the Terraonion MODE.

It's been so long I'd forgotten just how loud the 360 could get.

And that power brick... holy shit that power brick.

So I found out that I basically have to get the back of the NES modded so I can use an SNES component cable on it...
Or find a new Scart cable.

The problem is these Scart cables arent for sale anywhere.
