some shmup were getting expensive 15+ years ago. Radiant Silvergun was a popular one. Low print run and honest demand will do that over time.

There is also some terrible ebay price manipulation going around where sellers relist their previously "sold" game ad infinitum with different accounts until the price is high enough for them. They will continue doing that until their item reaches some bullshit price paid by some poor sob. They often spam their listings with WATA and VGA descriptions so you'll know who they are. Auction sites got even more frustrating thanks to them.

Another ebay/amazon price scam trick you'll see is if there aren't any current listings for a game, somebody will show up and list it for $3,000 even if it's only worth $100.

No, you fucking fool. You temporarily have the only one on this particular website. You do not set the fucking market value by yourself. I have to seriously wonder how often that trick actually cons somebody into thinking their product is worth that price. Let alone someone with enough money to casually pay it without doing the slightest bit of comparison shopping via other methods.

What usually happens is the price goes back down to around market as soon as 2-3 more sellers show up and list their items.
