Chuck Norris WTF?
Whats the deal with this Chuck Norris shit going around now. I remember seeing it on few posters sigs from variious forums but today at work some chick had a shirt that said Chuck doesn't fear death, death fears Chuck or something bullshit like that.......Why is everyone talking about dude now like he won American Idol or something? This is only a 1/4 as annoying as them vote for pedro joints and kids quoting Napoleon Dynamite..that movie sucked...anywho, whats the deal?
Re: Chuck Norris WTF?
He's an Internet catchphrase/fad like any other. I know Adult Swim has started showing that old cartoon of his, because anything involving Chuck Norris is hilarious. Just the mere mention of his name invokes wit and comic timing the likes of which none has every seen.Never_Scurred wrote:Whats the deal with this Chuck Norris shit going around now. It's part of this whole stupid "LOL 80's" trend/revival. It needs to die, but I don't see any signs of it stopping.

At least it's a fad that has the weight of real life history behind it. This isn't the first topic I've seen where people were looking for explanations for the Chuck thing, but the man's got that little extra. The unchanging mug, the beard, the roundhouse kicks, the unfailing do-gooder tough guy image. He's not some pimply geek invention, there's some heart to the fun. Where was the link to that video of a TV show where Chuck himself was reading some faves off a card? The circle closed there. I don't think it's funny in an all your base or O RLY way.
Of course if I was bombarded with it or saw t-shirts it might start to piss me off as well. I grew up with the tough Chuck image, that's why it cracks me up.

Me too, I think its hilarious and the fact the man himself is aware of it and even comments on his favorite facts etc is too funny.Bingo wrote:I grew up with the tough Chuck image, that's why it cracks me up.
Where can I find the origins of the O, RLY owl?

"O RLY?" is an old internet joke, usually a sarcastic reply to a stupid post. It got splattered onto various pics of people with the confused/eyebrow-raised look on their faces, then spread to the snowy owl, after 4chan's owl pic flood.

About a year or so ago. I made a comic strip called Zombie Nation (archives are at www.spacebabes.org) where one of the main characters was represented by photocopied images of Chuck Norris.
At the time I thought I was being clever but now I realize that I'm going to get lumped in with all the other Chuck Norris humor from this time period.
I just want the world to know that I was making fun of Chuck Norris before it was cool to do so.

Yeah right. Were you even alive during the 80s?Andi wrote:No. Maybe you forgot, at one point, people didn't make fun of Chuck Norris. *pulls Conan O'Brien's "Walker: Texas Ranger Lever"*
In any event, at least Chuck doesn't take himself too seriously, considering he actually made a live appearance on "Conan" on one of the aforementioned lever-pulling occasions...I'm sure he must have gotten wind of the "facts" site, I'll bet he cracked up at it.

Bruce kicked his ass so bad in that movie.rolins wrote:Return of the DragonMichaelm wrote:Well I know he had his own movies and series and stuff but to me I'll always remember Chuckie as the bad guy who dared to fight Bruce Lee in that movie I can't remember the name of...Bingo wrote:the unfailing do-gooder tough guy image.

I did great so much water and milk that I threw up when I was little.
During his prime I was young and naive enough to think he was a badass. My older siblings, on the other hand...PaCrappa wrote:Yeah right. He had an action figure in the 90's, didn't he? SOMEONE had to think he was at least kind of cool.Davey wrote:During his prime I was young and naive enough to think he was a badass. This chuck norris stunt has really grown old and has become an irritating and tiresome joke.
I wish the internet would stop beating a dead horse. Newbies on forums carry on old and not-funny chuck norris jokes just to be fun and to be accepted by the oldies of the forums, it's like a parody of itself.
Internet, please stop.
It's not funny anymore.

I was surprised to see that Maddox bought into the fad. The "N" chapter in The Alphabet of Manliness is devoted to Chuck Norris. I'm not really hip and/or with it, so I'm not sure exactly when this Chuck Norris trend started. As such, I'm guessing it might be possible that he wrote that chapter before Chuck Norris became the cliche he is today.
I haven't had a chance to really read the book yet, my girlfriend just got it yesterday. From the parts I skimmed, though, it seems pretty good.
