He's an Internet catchphrase/fad like any other. I know Adult Swim has started showing that old cartoon of his, because anything involving Chuck Norris is hilarious. Just the mere mention of his name invokes wit and comic timing the likes of which none has every seen.

It's part of this whole stupid "LOL 80's" trend/revival. It needs to die, but I don't see any signs of it stopping. :(

I got a kick out of the cartoon for a little while. It's even dumber than Captain Planet.

At least it's a fad that has the weight of real life history behind it. This isn't the first topic I've seen where people were looking for explanations for the Chuck thing, but the man's got that little extra. The unchanging mug, the beard, the roundhouse kicks, the unfailing do-gooder tough guy image. He's not some pimply geek invention, there's some heart to the fun. Where was the link to that video of a TV show where Chuck himself was reading some faves off a card? The circle closed there. I don't think it's funny in an all your base or O RLY way.

Of course if I was bombarded with it or saw t-shirts it might start to piss me off as well. I grew up with the tough Chuck image, that's why it cracks me up.

Me too, I think its hilarious and the fact the man himself is aware of it and even comments on his favorite facts etc is too funny.

Where can I find the origins of the O, RLY owl?

edit:
google is my friend, o, rly?

http://www.orlyowl.com/

guess its a forum thing for when noobs post selfexplaining stuff etc.

"O RLY?" is an old internet joke, usually a sarcastic reply to a stupid post. It got splattered onto various pics of people with the confused/eyebrow-raised look on their faces, then spread to the snowy owl, after 4chan's owl pic flood.

About a year or so ago. I made a comic strip called Zombie Nation (archives are at www.spacebabes.org) where one of the main characters was represented by photocopied images of Chuck Norris.

At the time I thought I was being clever but now I realize that I'm going to get lumped in with all the other Chuck Norris humor from this time period.

I just want the world to know that I was making fun of Chuck Norris before it was cool to do so.

No. Maybe you forgot, at one point, people didn't make fun of Chuck Norris. People genuinely thought he was cool.

Yeah right. Were you even alive during the 80s?

*pulls Conan O'Brien's "Walker: Texas Ranger Lever"*

In any event, at least Chuck doesn't take himself too seriously, considering he actually made a live appearance on "Conan" on one of the aforementioned lever-pulling occasions...I'm sure he must have gotten wind of the "facts" site, I'll bet he cracked up at it.

He had an action figure in the 90's, didn't he? SOMEONE had to think he was at least kind of cool.

This chuck norris stunt has really grown old and has become an irritating and tiresome joke.
I wish the internet would stop beating a dead horse. Newbies on forums carry on old and not-funny chuck norris jokes just to be fun and to be accepted by the oldies of the forums, it's like a parody of itself.
Internet, please stop.
It's not funny anymore.

The internet can only beat a bead horse because CHUCK NORRIS killed the horse first.

The Chuck Norris cartoon is laughably cheesy to the max!!

I think Chuck Norris was made famous because of Walker, Texas Ranger. In that show, Chuck would walk in with a SMG and just blow everyone away without even batting an eye.

I was surprised to see that Maddox bought into the fad. The "N" chapter in The Alphabet of Manliness is devoted to Chuck Norris. I'm not really hip and/or with it, so I'm not sure exactly when this Chuck Norris trend started. As such, I'm guessing it might be possible that he wrote that chapter before Chuck Norris became the cliche he is today.

I haven't had a chance to really read the book yet, my girlfriend just got it yesterday. From the parts I skimmed, though, it seems pretty good.

I see more of an anti-trend trend than a trend to be honest. All I see is people professing how dead the horse is, how lame it all is. The dead horse seems to be doing alright as a soapbox  .
