Yeah, but the game makes me mad. I think the Raiden/XII Stag dichotomy is like 90%/30% (of people who've played the games actually enjoying them). It's just not in the same league as the Raidens. And like you might've noticed, some people actually like XII Stag.
Trizeal coming to dreamcast (not very long now :D))
Yes, I agree. Still, it seems those who have played Trizeal say it's nothing special, not especially bad but not especially good either. Meaning it'll probably gather some fans at least, maybe from those who have only recently started playing shmups (so their minds aren't saturated with million Raiden-clones, or maybe they haven't even played Raiden) or from those who just like the old-fashioned style better.Rob wrote: Yeah, but the game makes me mad. Raiden III will probably do it better, no doubt, but that doesn't mean Trizeal should be totally cast out.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

A friend of mine has played Trizeal in Japan and says that it's like a 2k Shienryu, i.e. average, no high or low peaks in its quality. It can sound weird, but it can be appreciated for this. Of course, if i want a Raiden-em up, i'll play Raiden DX.

A lot of people think Chaos Field suck, but I love it.
A lot of people love Ikaruga and Mars MAtrix, but I've come to the conclusion that I don't like them much.
If there's one thing I've learned is that, one should always find out theirselves before making judgement on a game (or anything else for that matter). Different people like different things.
I am defenitely gonna order a copy of this game and play it before I make a judgement on it. I DO like the looks of the screens though.

exactly, to each his own.
by the by, i heard (from Video-fenky) that the game will retail for ¥7,140, ouch. still, the blatant "raiden-like" accusations have me intrigued, that and it's another shmup for the DC. at this point it's almost my responisibility to buy it...

Strangely enough, this is one of my most anticipated shooters. Nice "clean" style. As long as this stick waggling is only featured on one of the selectable ships, that is.
I quite like XII Stag and its waggling does give my Hori a good workout, but on the other hand one game with stick-shooting is enough for me.
Normal shooting only please, for the other ships, Triangle Service.
One thing I am hoping to see the return of from XII Stag, is the Scoring Check Points during stages, that allow the player to see the gap between the current run and the top score at that point. And at the end of the stage the results displayed in the Score Graph showing the scoring line charts for Current and Top at all parts of that stage.

If you're referring to Gekioh: King of Shooting than I'm with you there. I found the US release of Shienryu to be quite competent, even though it has somewhat of a "low-budget" feel to the port. But I can't complain, I found a copy still-sealed for all of $3.00 just a few weeks ago that I picked up.BulletMagnet wrote:Dunno about others, but part of my personal "appreciation" for Shienryu, at least the US release I own
[OT]After reading about Border Down, Psyvariar 2, and now this, I'm considering spending the money on a DC mod of some sort. Would anyone recommend a MOD as opposed to a Utopia or other boot disc?[/OT]
I'm a bit surprised by all the hate in this topic. Does everyone shmup released have to be one the greatest to be embraced anymore? Given the fact that there are so few shmups even making home releases anymore, people should be thankful for every one they can get. Granted people shouldn't love blindly, but until you play the game yourself, you can't condemn it. With basically only GW Generations and Psikyo Vol. 3 on the horizon, how about a little more optimism folks. As long as there's no stick-wiggling, I'm definitely going to give this game a try.
Totally. I did it and I've never looked back. Nothing beats the convenience of direct-booting any region GD-ROM. Being able to treat every last one of your games as just another Dreamcast game, not a Japanese game or a European game.FRO wrote:After reading about Border Down, Psyvariar 2, and now this, I'm considering spending the money on a DC mod of some sort. Not really. There are already more shmups in existance than I have time to play seriously, especially excellent ones that are worthy of extended play.I'm a bit surprised by all the hate in this topic. I think the issue is this game was getting hate practically before it even got off the bus. It was getting hate when it was first getting location tests--and hearing how even though the game was brand new, nobody was playing it.
Anyway, I don't really mean to hate on the game coz I haven't played it; I'll save that for XIIStage
XIIStag plays like Raiden? I suppose a big mac kinda tastes like a steak too!

Excellent news, best of luck to them. I tried telling them at click-stick there's going to be more DC shooter games a couple of weeks ago........but as usual for whatever reason there's some hate campaign out against the DC.
See the comments above such as 'people who played it in Japanese arcades....' - does anyone actually know these people? or is it just stuff read on blogs and message boards? In general I mean, not just for this game title.
Were you there, did you see them play it, etc? In my experience with people, especially in groups, is that even when they are smack-bang in front of something looking at it, they are describing it as if there is a completey other different thing there........
Anyway, XII Stag is a good game. I like it's side-weapon buzz-style system.

Rydeen's awesome site with Trizeal info galore:

The XII Stag-type ship in Trizeal is secret and requires a code to unlock. This was published in a recent Arcadia mag so he chooses not to tell what the code is just yet.

Site would been even better if it had some pictures of the stages and bosses. That last boss ''the core'' can already see medicore bullet patterns from that rotation style.

Ugh, I don't know what I'm going to do about Trizeal. Like others, I got burned on Psyvariar 2 and Chaos Field. Now I'm hesistant to pay out the nose for a new Dreamcast shmup that might not be very good. I didn't really care much for XII Stag, but I don't think it was terrible.
The collector in me wants to get this game so my DC shmup collection will be complete. But 60 dollars is a lot of money, and chances are I probably won't like the game very much. I could risk waiting for the price to drop, but then it might become impossible to find a copy.

for those of you who do care, play-asia has opened pre-orders for 'trizeal.'
retail price: $64.90
discounted pre-order price: $59.90 (expires april 2nd)
the first print comes with some sort of miscellaneous pack-in crap, a bandanna, i hear.

I wasted a few credits on Trizeal a couple of months ago, and departed feeling utterly unimpressed. Admittedly, I didn't give it much of a chance, but there are too many very good shmups around at the moment for me to persevere with one that appeared to do little other than play on 16-bit nostalgia and offer a few half hearted attempts at 3d. A bit harsh, maybe, but I'd urge people to look carefully before spending a lot on the DC port.

i heard that somewhere. click's bbs i think, source was allegedly the same famitsu article that announced the port.dbd wrote:Where does it say anything about bandanas being involved at all???

Thats incorrect, Its this.....lech wrote:the game's getting a W32 port as well.
Triangle Service have launched a PC net ranking mini game which is an offshoot of Trizeal. Its free to download.
http://www.triangleservice.co.jp/html/t ... index.html
The system requirements are quite high and its likely you'll need an extra .dll file called glut32 (download it here http://www.xmission.com/~nate/glut.html)
I'd be interested to know peoples thoughts as it doesn't want to run on my PC

Hmm....quite the interesting little game.
For one I'm not too fond of the weapon change system, since in this case the homing missles are pretty much useless.
It plays and feels like a Diet Shienryu, but Shienryu wasn't all that bad to begin with. It sill won't justify me preordering it though...unfortunately the price will probably frickin' skyrocket due to limited pressings and crap. >_<
