i really like the stage 3 boss' patterns in psyvariar revision. the contracting and expanding tunnel with stray shots, followed quickly by a tight mesh of crossing bullets where you have to slip into a diamond and move with the pattern, immediately followed by fast and narrow lines bullets and big fat blue bullets straight after that. it stays axactly where i want it between the memorisor pattern and the improv bullets spams.
oh and one i hate: gunbird stage 6 dragon boss fast as hell bullet spams. fast as hell patterns that shoulkd be easy to dodge but are just too damn fast for me to see coming. also they move and tighten as you move so there is no exact and consistent way to tap your way out of it.

Gunbird 2's 2-5 boss' second form's first attack and 2-6' second form's first attack that Rob mentioned. The first time you see them you'd swear they're impossible.
ESP Ra De's 4th and final bosses have fun stuff to dodge.
DDP's Hibachi's spirit form's final attack is also fun.
Worst patterns:
Galuda's final boss' get you from behind junk.
DOJ's very final pattern, give me a break.
Any surprise laser blast. I hate that shit and it only works the first time.

I second this. I got the game two days ago, and getting decent buzz off of that pattern gets me grinning like a fool.sjewkestheloon wrote:i really like the stage 3 boss' patterns in psyvariar revision. the contracting and expanding tunnel with stray shots, followed quickly by a tight mesh of crossing bullets where you have to slip into a diamond and move with the pattern
I also really enjoy the patterns on level 3 of Mars Matrix, even though 99% of the time they kick my ass.

Fixed. "LOL I CAN SPROUT WINGS AND CHANGE FORM AFTER FORM"NTSC-J wrote: Worst patterns:

My favorite would have to be Shikigami no Shiro II's third boss, and it's final attack. It's so clustered yet so beautiful at the same time. You would swear that ZUN had something to do with the making of Shikigami.
Also worthy mentions are Mushihimesama's stage 4 mid-boss, Ikaruga's everything and ESP Galuda's third boss. Keeps you on your toes.

The final boss has some awesome attack patterns in particular -- especially the 'duel' (just a neat idea) and the very, very last bit.*freddiebamboo wrote:I suck at ikaruga, but the stage 2 boss attacks are awesome.

Man, reading this thread is like studying a foreign language.
Shows how much I pay attention to this stuff vs. just taking a zen approach to dodging (and hopefully surviving) insane bullet patterns.
There is one in Espgaluda (might be the L2 boss) that has some really neat patterns, though... I like the one where it feels like you're navigating a narrow canyon (sort of like River Raid), where you're avoiding the "walls" of the bullets coming at you.
As for something a little more oldskool, I always liked the attacks of the L2 boss in Thunder Force II... for some reason, that boss was harder than any of the other horizontal level bosses in the game, with 2 stages and multiple forms of attacks.
