Was this a good find?
Was this a good find?
So I was browsing around the local Game Stop and way in the back I found that they had a sealed Tekken 5/HORI Stick package for $69. Needless to say I had been looking for a good stick for SHMUPing so I grabbed it.
I really like the stick and from what I've seen on eBay & PlayAsia, $69 for the game & the stick was a good deal.
Also, what the hell is going on with Rez?? Up until last week, I never saw any copies lying around, now all the local game shops have at least one and are selling it for $40???

I bet you my life that those Rez copies are remakes by gamedirectexpo. They're doing that to all rare games which really sucks.
I wouldn't say this was a good deal, considering you can purchase a HRAP from play-asia for $10 more, and Tekken 5 is $15 on special at play-asia right now (and we all know you bought it for the stick, and not the game).

I'm having trouble imagining a world where this is a bad thing.Arznei wrote:They're doing that to all rare games which really sucks.
System11's random blog, with things - and stuff!

It's only bad if you own an original pressing and you were planning on trying to sell it for an outrageous sum of money in the future.bloodflowers wrote:I'm having trouble imagining a world where this is a bad thing.Arznei wrote:They're doing that to all rare games which really sucks.
Somebody should re-release Radiant Silvergun just to piss off the eBay collectors.
Yeah, exactly. Imagine if they started releasing old SNES games in their full glory again. Or even original PS1 games. Some of them are almost impossible to find these days, and for the people that do own them the last thing they want is companies ruining their collection's value by rereleasing games just for more publicity.jpolz wrote:It's only bad if you own an original pressing and you were planning on trying to sell it for an outrageous sum of money in the future.bloodflowers wrote:I'm having trouble imagining a world where this is a bad thing.Arznei wrote:They're doing that to all rare games which really sucks.

No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

This may sound strange to you, but there are actually people who don't buy games just to resell them. Why should I care if the value of a game I own drops? I hardly sell any game, because I bought them to play them. Collectors don't sell games because they want to put them on a shelf or whatever. The only people who suffer are jerkwads who hoard rare games to make a profit.
Moved to off-topic.
And I agree with bloodflowers and benj.

I dont want to start this anew, so let me just say this:
Reprints = Good but Indistinguishable Reprints = Bad
Asking for indistinguishable reprints is pretty much an indication of flawed character; because it's either envy "I want it too, I just can't (don't want to) afford it" or schadenfreude "just to piss off collectors". Someone who really only cares about gameplay doesn't mind cheaper "best of"/"platinum" versions.

$69 for Game + Stick seems a very good deal. The lowest price I have seen in local game store for a Hori Street Fighter Jam is $60.jpolz wrote:So I was browsing around the local Game Stop and way in the back I found that they had a sealed Tekken 5/HORI Stick package for $69. Simular to the Hori Tekken 5 Stick, the Street Fighter Jam uses the case of a RAP and mounted Sanwa Joystick, in additional it also got hardware auto fire.

*Meow* I am as serious as a cat could possible be. *Meow*
Good deal? Decent, but it's bested: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=8594
SAM: The CFJ stick is a real RAP (although buttons are soldered in). The US T5 Hori stick is NOT a RAP so it doesn't have the Sanwa stick, turbo switches, better quality, etc. (nor does the stick ever mention itself as a RAP anyway). However, the JP T5 Hori stick is a RAP with all the standard RAP features.

I assume that the stick & buttons can be swapped out for upgraded components shoudl the need arise?Ganelon wrote:Good deal? Decent, but it's bested: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=8594

I don't buy games to resell them either. But I also don't want my collection of games to decrease in value over time. It should be the other way around. I'm not even that much of a collector.benj wrote:This may sound strange to you, but there are actually people who don't buy games just to resell them. What a load of bollocks.
Basically if you bought the game at $50 and its worth $150 now.. if it gets re-released and lessens the value, you were a plonk not to sell it at $150. If you kept it and moan about it, thats just stupid.
If you have games that are worth more than their origonal release price. Sell them now and stop moaning.
You either want the game, or you want the profit. Take which ever.
About the joystick, its still $100 at my local. and the shelf is stocked to the brim with them, so I guess they didnt sell any yet. It does include the game though.
I'm gonna get the HRAP eventually, I don't like game graphics on my sticks.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
