XBO Elite 2 Controller on PS4 with Brook Wingman XE adapter?

Post by Dochartaigh »

I have some arthritis in my hands and can't comfortably use a PS4 controller. No big issues with Xbox 360/One controllers (or Switch Pro controller which I just played 200+ hours of Zelda with), but as soon as I switch over to the PS4 I have discomfort again so it's definitely just that controller for me.

So I want to use my Xbox One Elite Series 2 controller WIRELESSLY on the PS4. Brook makes a bunch of wireless converters but there's nearly no info on the Brook Wingman XE converter (newer version of their Xbox>PS4 "Super Converter"), so I'm seeing if anybody has had luck with these (how they work, any lag, disconnects, weird things happening, etc.). OR, is there any other wireless option/product I should look into? Brook has been AMAZING on letting me use newer controllers on retro consoles so I'm hoping this converter is the same.

The second part of this is I've never used a Xbox One Elite Series 2 programmable controller before (being delivered tomorrow). It seems like I can save 3 profiles (where I remap buttons) to the controller itself, BUT what worries me is the Brook converter says:
If Xbox One Elite Series 2 controller is used, please turn off controller profile settings to prevent interference with Wingman XE’s Turbo or Remap settings. As Xbox One Elite Series 1 controller is incapable of turning off profile settings, using Xbox One Elite Series 1 controller might result in Remap function overlapping.
I don't want anything crazy - there's four extra paddles on the back of the Elite controller. I just want to remap some buttons to those. Some examples of what's hurting my hands and I want to remap: clicking L3 in Horizon Zero Dawn to run literally ever other second hurts (sorry, I can't wait for her to walk slowly over...), so I want to program that to one of the back paddles (played 100+ hours by remapping L3 to Circle, but that's not ideal as I can't control the camera with the right joystick and at the same time hit Circle).

Another example is I just started playing God of War like an hour ago, and combat seems to go: throw axe R1/R2, recall axe Triangle, throw axe R1/R2, recall axe Triangle, over and over and over again and needs to be done quickly... So that is hurting my hand as well (plus I don't understand how you're supposed to also aim with the right joystick and hit a face button at the SAME time... like I only have one thumb on my right hand...) so wanted to remap Triangle to a paddle as well (or change something up so I can comfortably play the game).

Re: XBO Elite 2 Controller on PS4 with Brook Wingman XE adap

Thought I would update in case it helps anybody:

The Brook Wingman XE does work on the PS4, and it's super easy to setup. The buttons you program on the Xbox Elite controller (tried for the paddles at least), on the Xbox One App (or from your Windows computer via the program), DO still work the same way you programmed them when you use the Elite controller on the PS4 via the Wingman. I don't think the joystick custom curves come over though.

My problem was I couldn't play the Last of Us (1st or 2nd game) because you can't shake the Elite controller to recharge the flashlight. Brook was able to program the Wingman to do things like emulate the PS4's swipe up/down/left/right functionality over to an Xbox controller (great for games like Ghost of Tsushima), but they couldn't (or won't take the time) to fix this issue, so I returned the Brook Wingman.

Since the main functionality I wanted for the PS4 was the ability to use paddles for L3 and R3, I found our PS4 makes a $30 attachment that goes under their PS4 controller with 2x paddles so I bought that and it's been working great. Controller is still too small for my hand and it still pains me a little bit, but it's a big step in the right direction.

Other issue is the $180 (yes, that's not a typo) Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers are pieces of shit. I had two of them, brand new, in a row, have issues with the face X Y A B buttons. They won't register 100% unless you press down on them perfectly (like 90 degrees straight down) from the top. Edge presses (which work on my 4x standard XBO controllers perfectly) do not always register. Both of them pretty quickly (only had 30 days before returning them) got a weird squeak in the right trigger too (when set to the most shallow setting), and you can feel it flexing when you hit it... whereas the left side (which isn't used nearly as much I know) was perfectly fine. I really can't believe on the 2nd gen of these, and after it's even been out for nearly a year, they're STILL defective (and they have the balls to charge this much for them... and people still buy them because they're sold out at a ton of places too).
