Explain to me then, how it is that I am the stupid one. I hate Sony. I hate Sony's business practices. I will not support them. Other people hate Sony. Other people hate what Sony does. Yet they support them and give Sony the power to continue doing it. Yeah, I'm the stupid one.
I never called you stupid. All I was saying was that prejudices of any kind are the mark of stupid/backwards/uneducated people. Just look at history.
jp wrote:And who the fuck are you to tell me what system has "tons of good games"?
My username is icycalm, you can see that to the left of this post. I don't think my real name is important here.
jp wrote:I have a Saturn collection to finish, blah blah blah
Cool, good luck to you. I too have loads of collections to finish.
jp wrote:I don't even have time to play the games I buy.
No one does. We are all in the same boat. However, this is irrelevant to the subject we are talking about.
jp wrote:So whats your college degree in again? Hmmm? I mean, I know I'm stupid for not supporting a company I hate, but... wow... amazingly enough I'm getting a degree in Optical Engineering, one of the rarest engineering degrees in the country, with a 3.5 GPA thus far and while in the program I'm helping out in research to put a laser on the moon to shoot incoming meteors.

But hey, you're real smart man, you got a PS2. That totally trumps any laser cooling research I'm into. Lemme tell ya.
Your college qualifications are also irrelevant to this conversation, but since you asked, I have:

a B.Eng in Aeronautical Engineering from City University, London,
an MSc. in Space Science from University College London,
and I dropped out of a PhD. in Aerospace Engineering after 1.5 years at the University of Washington in Seattle. My GPA before I dropped out was 3.75 and I was being paid to work as a research assistant on a Plasma Physics project.

You should know however, that intelligence has little to do with college degrees. The fact that my GPA was higher than yours, or that I have more degrees than you do, doesn't mean I am smarter than you.

What you should do in a discussion is attack ideas, not the people who are proposing them.

^^ whoah, just when I thought this thread needed some PaC... ;)

On a side note: the only principals I'll truly hold onto are outside of videogames and it's industry. Therefore, though hating Sony's guts, I did buy a PS2 once the game I wanted desperately (Gradius V) came along.

And, though I hate Microsoft as a company even more, once the right game comes along I might buy a console by them (they lose money on the consoles anyway). :P

I only flip out when I'm personally attacked for whatever offhand random comment I happen to make.

My apologies then to you icycalm, as I took what you were saying to indicate that you were calling me stupid for not buying every console (which in all honesty, it still reads like that was what you were doing in some subtle way).

No worries. People who don't know me often take offence at my posts, reading subtle meanings where none are intended. In fact, I dislike subtleness and do my best to be as direct as possible. My distaste for smilies may also have something to do with it.

It's amazing however, how you can be a shmups fan and not own a PS2. Whatever you say, I bet that you'll end up with one sooner or later. And a PS3 :) I give you two years at the most.

It pains me when people boycott good games just because they're on a system they don't like. PS2 is by far the console with the best library this generation. Personal opinions on what good games are vary, of course, but it is my belief that if a person likes games, he or she will find something or a lot to like on the PS2. Even the most niche of genres have a couple of good games, there're Shmups, 2d side scrollers, gun games, 2d fighters, etc. How is Sony the evilest destroyer of old school games? I think Nintendo and Microsoft consoles are worse since they hardly have any old-school games.
"Sooo, what was it that you consider a 'good salary' for a man to make?"
"They should at least make 100K to have a good life"

I don't think intelligence has too much to do with what one believes, I've met intelligent Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Catholics, Jews, Protestants, etc. etc. But then who am I to talk? I'm only getting a master's degree
And yet the fucktards still buy the console. People complain about Sony's business practices, people talk about how they hate Sony, and yet... people fucking support them. Explain to me then, how it is that I am the stupid one. I hate Sony. I hate Sony's business practices. I will not support them. Other people hate Sony. Other people hate what Sony does. It's an interesting point. Supporting Sony could be altogether avoided by buying secondhand and thus avoiding license fees. I'd also argue that, seeing as I have a Japanese ps2 and as such buy only import releases (as swap magic/modding is too much of a hassle) I'm actually supporting Sony of Japan's positive business practices of allowing shmups to be released, along with supporting worthwhile shooter releases.

No insults implied/intended by this post...

The n00b wrote:The only reason I hope the 360 destroys the ps3 is for the sake of some xbox only games getting the attention they deserve. There were genres aka driving games, action games, and arcade racers where the xbox just destroyed the ps2. Shit like tourist trophy, Gran Turismo, and to some extent God of War wouldn't even fly on the xbox. People buy these games in droves though because they've never heard of MotoGP1-3, Forza, Rallisport Challenge1-2, Outrun, and Ninja Gaiden. So if MS keeps up this level of quality, I won't even miss $ony.
I'm sort of with ya up until the God of War comment - not a bad game at all that. Agree that Ninja Gaiden trumps GoW and (IMO) DMC though. The Xbox has actually been quietly building up the most consistent and quality line up of games of all three current consoles for the last two and a half years or so now - again IMO :D

JP - Whoa. Steady on guy. Nice to see a bit of banter though.
