Anyway, last weekend, I was at my friend's house. He has a 67" Samsung DLP TV, and I decided to try out both Gradius V and DDPDOJ on it. For some reason, I had the hardest time playing on the big display. I felt like my eyes couldn't see everything I needed to see in my peripheral, and because I had to sit 8-10 feet away from the TV, I felt like precision movement down to the pixel level was nearly impossible.
At home, I play on my Sony 40" XBR (yoko), and even on that, there are times where my eyes have a hard time keeping track of where everything is in relation to my ship. It seems like the smaller the TV gets (I've found the sweet spot to be in the 23-27" range, like arcade cabs), and the closer I sit, the better I am at getting through shmups.
How about you guys? I know that a lot of people here play on arcade-spec only, but for those who don't, what do you like? A bigger screen or a smaller one? Thanks for your feedback. I think it'd be cool to find out what works best for people here. It could help me decide on a good overall shmupping setup as well.
