weren't they on the Naomi partner list as well?
They didn't make a Naomi game up to now either afaik...

being on a partner's list might just a well mean shit then...:?

I see one of two things happening here:

1)This is a "foot in the door" move by MS Japan, where they get console exclusivity on whatever the next title from the previously mentioned devs are, standards be damned.

2)The rumbling of "graphical standards" on the PS3 has scared the shit out of them, and they're taking advantage of MS's deep pockets to fund their next game.

Are you referring to the whole "it's gotta be 3D or you can go jump" talk that was floating around? I thought that was Sony of America imposing that crap, and not Sony of Japan?

IIRC, there's no "Sony of America" anymore, all of their publishing operations run through Sony Computer Entertainment International (i think that's the right name) now. From the rumors I heard, 2d is ok, but it has to be high res (think Guilty Gear X2) at the very least.

Also, as for Cave games, most of us know Ketsui was planned for the PS2, then cancelled.
Hardly... Mihara simply wanted to do it, but couldn't make it work for whatever reason, according to him. Eithe way, it wasn't even talked about until long after the fact, so doesn't quite fit in to the scenario of the above game.
Wasn't the PS2 port cancelled due to the fact that the player making the superplay disc to be included with the port was caught submitting a score used on the invincibility-enabled Ketsui board he used to practice on? In other words, Arika's 'shame' incurred from the whole situation. I recall hearing that numerous times.

No, there was no port associated with the superplay. The original plan was just to release the superplay DVD, and that's what got scrapped. If there was a plan to bundle the DVD with a port, they never mentioned the port.

Oh ok, my mistake. I remember reading many people saying that Arika refused the port of Ketsui due to this incident. Must have been distorted info on the web.

I think it's fairly obvious that this is imposed on the west, and not Japan . There are plenty of 2D games coming out in Japan, and not just shooting ones.

There are still 2d games coming out in the west (the new Guilty Gears, Street Fighters, Alien Hominids, etc) but they have to be at least relatively modern looking (which always bit SNK in the ass) and even then, it's tough to get Sony to approve them for anything higher than the $30 price point.

It's like the stockmarket, more or less. See, if you buy shares in a decent company, and are prepared to wait long enough, then you are pretty much guaranteed to make money.

Treasure will eventually make a new high-res 2.5D shooter, Gradius 6 is going to happen regardless of the naysayers, and Cave won't keep making shooters on their 3rd generation hardware for ever.

I say give it another year and a half, and we'll start getting some screenshots to drool over.

Cave's current hardware is only 2 years old. Hardly 3rd generation. The CEO also said, when Ketsui came out, they had no desire to make 3D games. That was a few years ago, but they've shown no signs of caving in (pun intended).

Remember fellas, just 'cause a co's name is on a list for soft developers for a certain platform, doesn't mean they are coming through.

You'll see the same thing in new communication standards. I remember when Bluetooth was coming out and there out of the many companies that were part of the Bluetooth SIG (special interest group), only a handful of them actually came through w/ a real product.

A very valid (and true) point. Look at the list of Naomi developers from 1998, for example. If only Batrider, Dimahoo, and Dangun homeports had materialized :(

Isn't this (and the Senko coming stateside) thread pretty much needless speculation anyway? If it happens we'll know. In the meantime there are great games to play right here and now.

Treasure is working on an arcade shmup. The action/shooting game on 360 is likely NOT a shmup.

No thread is "needless" as long as there are at least two people willing to post in it.

Also, I have already explained (see 1st page) that the three games are not speculation, but even if they are, what's wrong with that?

We all have several years' worth of games to play. As far as I am concerned, you don't have to be Napoleon to keep playing older games while, at the same time, "speculating" about forthcoming ones.

And here's a smilie, just in case anyone thinks I am being an asshole :)

That article doesn't mention Cave or Alpha system, so looks like you're 1 for 3 so far.

XBOX causes trailerparks and mullets wouldwide. The lack of funding after console purchase forces adults to not posess change to cut their hair or maintain a house.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Good luck getting that Cave shooting game on the X360. But after all "there's no chance in hell it will get cancelled", right? lol

Despite the 36'0's abysmal sales -
I'd suspect that if Hudson do okay with their (supposedly basic) Omega Five (and likewise with Treasure) theres a fair chance we could see something by Cave - my only reservation is that it probably wouldn't be something new.

I'm not sure if they've had anything on Partnernet though.
No one on my gaming forum has said anything anyway (and even if it was on Parnernet - it doesn't mean its coming).

If anything i'd have thought Cave would do something for the Wii as its the biggest seller and gives them the widest overage although if this were the case i'd be gutted as i don't have a Wii.
