R-Type Returns

Post by djsheep »

Thought it was a new game, looks like a cash grab "collectors" reissue by Retro Bit...

I don't want anything with retrobit's logo on it.

Bah. I will pass -- That's just SNES Super R-Type and R-Type III.

R-Type III is awesome, but there are better ways to play it.

I'm waiting for Hamster's Arcade Archives R-Type, and since they have Irem's IP, maybe we'll get the real R-Type II and R-Type Leo as well.

R-Type And Other Irem Arcade Hits Are Coming To Switch
Thanks to Hamster

Japanese conversion specialist Hamster - famous for its superb line of Neo Geo ports on the Switch eShop - has just revealed that it has gained the licence to bring some of Irem's most beloved coin-op titles to Nintendo's console.

The first game is Arcade Archives Zippy Race, which is due for release this year in Japan. Arcade Archives R-Type is also confirmed, along with Arcade Archives Front Line. There's no word on if or when these games will arrive in the west, but it will be easy enough to download them from the Japanese eShop.

Which other Irem titles would you like to see? In The Hunt? Kung-Fu Master? Image Fight? Undercover Cops? GunForce? Mr. Heli?

Is the "certificate of authenticity" there to help scalpers to flip these things?

I think you're supposed to keep an eye on these guys if you're hoping for a new R-Type game, but the odds aren't that great http://www.granzella.co.jp/menu/index.html

I had to google to find anything about that.

Disaster Report aside, do you have word on any other Irem properties like R-Type and Steambot Chronicles?

Kujo: We’ve definitely had people asking us in the wake of the Disaster Report acquisition whether there would be more stuff coming from R-Type and the return of Steambot Chronicles II. Believe me, I have a great deal of love for those series, too, but right now I can only guarantee that we’ve got Disaster Report.

"1UP: Did you work on R-type Tactics? Which was kind of a combination of the simulation and shooting genre?

Kujo: Yes, yes. (I'll be making games) like R-type Tactics."

Yeah, Granzella is really just their later life Bumpy Trot/ZZT/Tactics people as far as I know. I don't think we'll be seeing a regular R-Type from them.

Everyone wants that Bumpy Trot 2... maybe we'll actually get it after ZZT4.

I really liked R-Type Tactics / R-Type Command. Not only was it turn-based strategy, and is also uses hex-based movement, like the Nectaris / Military Madness games, but unlike Advance Wars. I read recently that the Japan-only R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate has a fan made English patch completed.
Would love to see an R-Type Tactics III with touch controls, on Vita or Switch.

That might actually be the direction they're going. I don't know if they have Vita devkits at this point, they might skip Vita and go straight to Switch instead.

(I know this is off-topic, but I think everyone can agree that the topic itself isn't very interesting.)

That cartridge looks pretty awful in materials (as far as i can see) and colors, i hope it's some form of placeholder. Actually i don't really care since the chance of me picking this up it almost nonexistant :)

R-type 3 is fairly pricey game, this doesn't seem like a terrible way to get it tbh.

SNES Cartridge.
At this rate, I won’t be interested into shmups anymore. I am no longer going to be active in this forum from now on. I am more interested into Kemono Friends, rhythm games, D4DJ, Puzzle Games, Hololive, and Pretty Cure.

Farewell.
