My Pro Gear Died!!
I am extremely pissed as my American version of Pro Gear died. I suppose the battery kicked off. Is there a way to bring this thing back to life? I cannot do it myself, but does anybody know where I can send this board for a death to life surgery? I knew this would happen. I changed the batteries on 1944 and Dimahoo and then I went to swap out Pro Gear but it was too late.

Yes Razoola, will phoenix your board for you. He did this with my Progear board, and i'm very pleased with the service. Raz was very helpful throughout and the service was quick.

If the suicide battery dies the board becomes unusable, although it could at one time be restored by sending it to Capcom (I don't know if they do this anymore.) The battery can be replaced, although I'm not familiar with the procedure to do this.

I'm surprised you didn't get the battery changed before this happened. CPS2 suicide is well documented and widely known about.
There's a thread in the hardware forum detailing the change procedure - it's really very easy - unlike CPS1 which is an absolute bitch in comparison.

Yea, I did wait too long. I finally got around to swapping them out. I figured I would do all 3 of the CPS II boards I have at once. I really did not expect the Pro Gear to be dead yet since I bought it two years ago under the assumption the battery was fairly new. At least I saved Dimahoo and 1944 for 5 more years.bloodflowers wrote:I'm surprised you didn't get the battery changed before this happened. CPS2 suicide is well documented and widely known about.

Sorry to hear this.
I swop the battery of my Progear once I acquired it. Since I don't know when did the last owner replaced the battery.
I think I might damaged part of the code table, since text of the maintance menu are all broken now. Lucky they could still readable, and there is nothing wrong with the game.
I thought they would always repair it for you for a charge.
Phoenix mod is the only other option.
Since you have to paid money to repair it anyway, why not making it suicide free.

What, Capcom no longer repair suicided CP2 board?Vexorg wrote:If the suicide battery dies the board becomes unusable, although it could at one time be restored by sending it to Capcom (I don't know if they do this anymore.) I suggest you to contact the guy of CPS2 Shock, about Phoenix modding your dead Progear.llaoyllakcuf wrote:AFAIK, the only way to do that is to replace all the game's original

see this site for details: CPS-2 Shock

Capcon only repairs a suicided board IF YOU ARE AN OPERATOR.
you send it back to the distributor with money, and they send it to capcom for the repair. The cost is peanuts to the arcade operator.
They never have fixed it for us lowly peons.
Razoola is the only one who can fix your board now. send your roms to him and the cash, and he sends you fixed ones.

Did you check if you did not bent any pin in on the B side when you tried to put A+B together ?. It happened to me once when I changed the battery on my Xmen Vs Capcom pcb. Went awaywhen I straighten them up.SAM wrote:I think I might damaged part of the code table, since text of the maintance menu are all broken now. Would it make a difference if it was a complete kit?Dave_K. wrote:Phoenixed boards actually decrease their value because of all the boots out there. An original board should be just that, original. Its not difficult or costly to swap out all your CPS2 batteries once every 3-4 years. Excecpt if you are a lazy westerner I guess.

Legit phoenix boards always have the cps2shock link in them, and are always made formoriginal boards. hence, thyey do hodl their value somewhat.
The bootlegs ahve the reference blocked out. and yes, progear is one of the most common ones nowadays. ;(
If the battery is still alive, it's best to swap it.
BUt if the battery dies, the board has no more value unless it is turned into a phoenix edition.

shame on CAPCOM who recycle old *i mean very old* battery on CPS2 boards without caring of what could happened. last week, i ve changed battery on MARS MATRIX and GIGAWING proudly and recently acquiried in Tokyo.....
the older battery had been made in 94/01 and was on MM board ... i guess it was time to replace it...
then, changing battery is not too hard * on CPS 2* even if you ve got 2 left hands ....

I'd take the opposite tack. Get it phoenix modded and never worry about your shit dying on you. Adds a lot of neat features as well.Dave_K. wrote:Phoenixed boards actually decrease their value because of all the boots out there. An original board should be just that, original. Nothing on CPSII is particularly valuable except Progear, IIRC. Not that value matters after you've bought the game.

Word. It doesn't take much time to do a bunch either. It took me, including opening/closing the cases, probably less then an hour to do about a dozen. And that was considering that I bought batts that needed a different lead soldered on, so it was actually more time than replacing w/ stock batts!Dave_K. wrote:Its not difficult or costly to swap out all your CPS2 batteries once every 3-4 years. Yes, I need to know the cost as well.GaijinPunch wrote:Out of curiosity, how much does it run to have a board Phoenix'ed.
