Hello just confrimed by GAME, Taito Legends 2 will be out on the PC, Xbox and PS2 on the 31st of march here in the UK according to our biggest game retailer!
Now i doubt I need to remind you guys that the PS2 version has some differnt games from the Xbox and PC versons which aprear to be the same at first glance. This is either a synical marketing ploy or that the PS2 is more suited to emulating Gradius which could be (purely speculation here!) a straight port of the PSX version which would be good since it has more modes and hopfuly less slowdown on the ps2!
Xbox/PC only titles
Bubble Symphony
Cadash
Rayforce
Pop 'n Pop
PS2 only titles
Balloon Bomber
Ray Storm
G Darius
Syvalion
Personaly I'd rather go for the Xbox collection mainly because I already own G-Darius on the PSX and I can emulate that without slowdown on my PC and also Cadash is on the Xbox verson!!
Anyway, any thoughts?
p.s: Thinking about it I love all the "extra" games on the Xbox ver. I've not even herd of Ballon Bomber or Syvalion but I am now looking forward to playing an arcade perfect Pop 'n Pop (I own the PSX version but it's not the same although it does keep the gameplay it just don't feel right!) which is like puzzle bobble crossed with space invaders.
I'll pick up the PS 2 and PC ports whenever the U.S. decides to get a release date set for it. The first game had a 2-3 week wondow from the time it was released in Europe to the time it hit American shores, but whether this holds true for The Second Coming is anyone's guess at the moment.

Just keep in mind there might be more differences in the emulation than usual, between the Xbox and PS2 versions this time. If the rumors are true that the Xbox version is being developed in the west, and the PS2 version was done in Japan with no sharing of emulation cores. It might be a case of waiting for hands-on impressions from people to know which will be the better of the two, game lineup differences aside...

Well aprently both versions have gotten glowing reviews in their respective magazines so I'm guessing the emulation is not all bad. Besides I won the Xbox version of the last Legends title and if it's being done by the same team then I have every confedence in them that they won't mess up the port.
I'm also sure that the PS2 will be just fine as well, Taito know how important this is to a lot of retro gamers and won;t let things slip like a certain video gaming producing retro pack releasing company *cough*Midway*cough*.
edit: The Offical Xbox Magazine gave it 8.4/10 and the offical Playstation magazine gave it 9/10 and normaly they don't warm to such collections.
Why couldn't they include them all in one package?
I all ready have Ray Storm & G Darius for the PS-1 and Balloon Bomber & Syvalion don't interest me much.
I always wanted an arcade perfect port of Rayforce as the Saturn version is inferior in some aspects. Bubble Symphony is also a great, but seeing as I don't have an X-Box and can all ready play them on my PC via emulation, I think I'll have to go for the PS-2 collection.
Never the less, both collections have quite a few cool games and shooters for that matter (excluding the ones mentioned previously):
Cleopatra Fortune
Darius Gaiden
Elevator Action Returns
Gekirindan
Grid Seeker: Project Storm Hammer
Gun Frontier
Insector X
Liquid Kids
Majestic 12
Metal Black
Puzzle Bobble 2
Saint Dragon - AMIGA - Jaleco 1989

This would be relativly easy to code right?
You would think so but judging by the last Taito Legends release I'm guessing no TATE although that is just a guess and I could be wrong, or at least I hope I am.

It totally slipped my mind that the first pack had some vertically oriented stuff on there. I was mainly just thinking out loud.
What if a majority of us would have emailed the dev team responsible, would they have included it? Who knows.
You are FAR too obsessed with Tate, good hell man. The only case I've ever seen Tate be worth the trouble is with Gunbird 2, and that's because they failed in proper sizing of the game non-tate. Ikaruga pulled off non-tate mode flawlessly, and the only thing tate gives you, is a bigger picture. Ooooo... Special... Or.. not.
You gotta remember though that the "average" fan of these retro collections are not going to bother to rotate their TV's on there sides so that they can get the "full effect" of the game, to much effort specialy since most now proberbly have HD ready widescreens or something along those lines heh.
Saying that though lets hope they do have TATE just for aurguements sake because there are a lot more important vert scrolling shmups in this package but saying that it won't destory the package for me if there is no such mode because Cadash is still in there!

i think you will find you are in a minority of 1 with that assessment sir
Tate is like chocolate AND sex both together
Oh really? There are plenty of us on this site that don't have TV's that Tate at all, or if they do, you have to shove a blippin' dictionary behind the darn thing!
Unless a shmup has wobble mode in non-Tate, and/or a severely cropped screen (example: PS1 DoDonPachi), I agree with Arvandor. (At least until I can buy a flat-panel TV. )
At any rate, isn't Cadash on the PCE pretty much arcade-perfect?

Farewell to fake affection

Sigh... what is with the bullshit PS2/PC only games? I hate that. Release them all for systems. The games I want most are Darius, Cadash, and Bubble Memories (Dungeon Magic too).
^^^Agreed. It seems like a cheap gimmick to get people to buy more than one version, but really, how many people would buy a second copy just for four extra games? I'm sure it's not a problem with getting those games to work on certain platforms (because if it was, the PC version should have every game in the collection).

Nope, Ray Force is another game where they failed to re-size the screen properly. Least on the Saturn version. Makes the game much harder to play in certain areas, so Tate would have been very welcome on this.

What's different about it?
From what I can remeber the PSX version levels are slightly differnt (and it also does have extra gameplay modes, i'll give it credit for that!) and also the framerate is not the same either and is not as smooth as the arcade which kind of annoys me a little.
I'll have to dig out my copy of it once I get TL2 and compare them!
i wonder if the ps2 one will support non analogue sticks this time. bloody stupid if not... fancy not being able to playt arcade ports on arcade controlls...
I'm considering the US release cancelled. I know that's a negative way of looking at it, but after all this time, no date has been announced, their forums say nothing regarding a US release beyond "We're working on it" from quite a few months ago, and there's nothing on their site giving even the slightest hint of a US release coming.
I have a feeling that they dropped it in a quiet manner, and moved on to other games. So my advice to you would be to hop onto eBay, find the PC version of TL2, and grab it. It works just fine on a US PC, and you'll get to finally enjoy it.
