For some reason I get an effect with certain shmups that's hard to explain, and it affects most of my shmups to a varying degree. It is most noticeable with the purely 2D elements eg. initial loading text ( a la the arcade regional text warnings ), or more importantly, in-game sprites. The edges of certain ships, bullets etc are pixellated for some reason. One example where it is really obvious is the character select screen in Espgaluda (PS2) where the wings of Ageha/Tateha look very 'grainy' also with a 'scan line' effect? Accidentally tho, with DDP DOJ (PS2), I noticed that if I used Tate mode then the graphics were 'fixed'. Only prob is that when I tate my TV it discolours at the edges for hours after use so that isn't an option. Is it anything to do with my PAL PS2 and the (mostly) NTSC games? I'm not convinced of that tho because my PAL copy of Psyvariar also suffers to a small degree. Any ideas?
