RayCrisis
Re: RayCrisis
Is this latest topic for this game? sorry for necro
I wanted to ask about music. Are they totally two different soundtracks for original mode and special mode?

Re: RayCrisis
Original mode plays the original OST, Special Mode plays a single 24-minute dynamic track which progresses depending on how far you are in the gameqmish wrote:Is this latest topic for this game? sorry for necro![]()

Re: RayCrisis
Yeah, depending on your order in RayCrisis's original/arcade mode, you will get one of four long, 15-20 minute tracks that change/develop as you make your way through the game. In Special mode, you only get one (also very good) long track that develops accordingly.
The soundtrack approach is very avant-garde and really unique. The game has one of my favorite OSTs.
I wish I could pin down if there were any changes Working Designs made to how you keep the Encroachment meter under control. When I watch arcade replays (the few that exist), it feels as if there are times where the player can make the meter go down to nothing almost instantly by targeting certain things - but the video quality makes it ambiguous. I can't recreate those moments on the PS1 USA port, in any event. I would hate to discover a game I really enjoy be sullied by the retarded decisions of Vic Ireland - much like how he ruined RayStorm's port by making the full game literally impossible to play on default arcade difficulty (ending the game at st3 if you set the stages to arcade) - simply unforgivable. Vic, if you ever read this, you are a fuckhead.

Re: RayCrisis
The first game is still the best, I think - which does not mean Storm and Crisis do not have their individual merits.
I imported Layer Section II for the Saturn back in the day (and reviewed it on shmups.com too!), but the port aged quite poorly, especially compared to the PSOne version.

Re: RayCrisis
For no reason i have Raycrisis on iOS. Not very fond of port (Rayforce was more playable for me there
), so i just got my introduction to game in some way.
As for music, i think i like "Special mode" soundtrack better. Anyway, i'd say both soundtrack options kind of very differ in style from what RayForce and RayStorm had? I dunno. Love Zuntata, anyway!
As for graphics/visuals, Raycrisis is both a bit ugly but also pretty stylish... Some very epic moments (with bosses and scenery), too. Technical-wise, i'm not sure, but i'd say it has impressive enough 3d detalisation especially in city are with all those buildings etc. How does it compare to Einhander etc. in regards of using hardware? And would Saturn manage RayCrisis? (question for hardware maniacs who know Shenmue beta stuff and how those processors etc work....)
Gameplay side, hard to say currently. Is it "manic"? During boss fights those fast and random as hell (but actually not?) bullets.
