I am trying to remember the name of a shmup I played when I was little. In it, you are sitting on top of a large ship, and your pilot is the one doing most of the shooting. There are air and ground targets, and your ship doesn't blow up, the pilot dies instead. When you run out of lives, THAT's when the ship blows up. I also remember the title in attract mode being surrounded by thorny vines, and there were pairs of enemies trying to choke you with a rope between them somewhere.
If anyone can tell me the name of this shmup, it would be greatly appreciated.

Was it a vertical or horizontal shmup? What platform was it for? (Arcade, PC, etc.)

It was definitely a vertical shmup, and I think it was for Arcade. Not sure which board, as I was new to shmups and wasn't familiar with these things. Was it a vertical or horizontal shmup? What platform was it for? (Arcade, PC, etc.)

It's Data East's Gondomania, which is in MAME. Makyou Senshi is the Japanese version. The pilot's weapon can be aimed with rotary control (arcade cabinets have the SNK rotary type stick).
Kinect? KIN NOT.
