Have you gotten any 1CCs in your absence? I figured you were on a hermitage with your 360 and DFK and Deathsmiles.

Re: So I'm back.....
Since there's no way I'm reading through all of that any time soon, anyone care to explain the legacy of DrTrouserPlank? To be honest what I've read from there seems more reasonable than what I usually see on this forum, the criticism there seems largely unwarranted (albeit not unexpected).Sumez wrote:Everyone should prepare for the second coming by reading this:

Re: So I'm back.....
He's a funny character. He's actually being very articulate in his criticism, and on point about a lot of stuff, so it usually comes across like he's making sense, but he keeps repeating the same constant mistake of blaming his own lack of skill on the games.
It's been known to drive people nuts when they try to help him out, but I find it entertaining and welcome him back.

DTP's legacy is a near-unbeatable repertoire of quote gold.

Re: So I'm back.....
I tried that for a bit when it came out for the 360. Quite liked the game but the difficulty got stupid very rapidly. From what I remember the "easy" mode was trivial. The normal mode was marginally more ridiculous that CAVE's previous efforts.Bananamatic wrote:go play saidaioujou

No, I fell out of the routine of playing those games around the time I stopped posting. In the end I just had to give Futari up as a bad job since the clear was never going to happen in that game irrespective of how much more time I wasted. I must have put in 80-100 hours at that point.. it's been so long I barely even know anymore.dan76 wrote:Get that Futari clear yet?
I have just this morning set up my Japanese 360 and there's a bookshelf full of CAVE games that has been taunting me for the past few years so who knows what might happen. The one thing I am fairly sure of however is that this will probably end poorly for all involved.

Or DeathSmiles. You should be able to clear that.
Otherwise, ever thought about giving non-danmaku games a try? Stuff like R-Type has a reputation for being difficult, but it's one of those games where playing it over and over WILL make you better at it.

Who the hell are you?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

But yeah, I agree that sdoj gets quite messy pretty fast.

100 hours seems like quite a long time to not 1cc Futari; a game that (if you believe what people post here) supposedly clears itself.donluca wrote:100 hours is barely scratching the surface.DrTrouserPlank wrote:I must have put in 80-100 hours at that point.. it's been so long I barely even know anymore.

Re: So I'm back.....
While I'd say Futari Original is clearly in the easier half of the Cave 1CC spectrum, it definitely requires both skill and practice. And that's assuming you just bomb your way through several boss patterns.
I have no idea how much time I've spent on it, but it's nowhere near 100 hours.

Re: So I'm back.....
To get a clear on something like Futari, just make sure you score enough to get the extends and make sure you pre-emptive bomb any trouble spots. If you know there's a place you usually die just bomb first. You will scrape a clear, then replay gradually reducing the amount of bombs you use.

Re: So I'm back.....
I'm wondering, is there any point even playing Daioujou and trying to just work through it and 1cc it or are you just never going to manage that without just memorising someone else's route move for move? You clearly can't just play it and dodge stuff as it appears, which leaves extreme memorisation as the only option I can see ever working (at which point you aren't even playing the game anymore).
I'm horribly out of practice and I'm probably getting hit by stuff that I didn't use to, but even accounting for that level 3 onwards just seems like something that needs to be memorised since there's only one way to get through it, and you'll never work it out yourself.
Doesn't help that the stage select is completely useless since you start the stage at minimum power.

Re: So I'm back.....
Are you sure you wanna go there already?
I don't recall any Cave games that require you memorizing specific routes just to survive. It helps a lot if you can remember where the big enemies are gonna show up next while dodging zako swarms and such, but you get that just from playing the game yourself.
Now, high scoring tactics, that's a different beast.
Btw, because I'm curious - have you ever considered playing non-bullethell shooters?

The idea of this extreme memo is to reduce risk to a minimum. Unless you play extremely random games it's something you have to accept to get anywhere.
