I'm not sure how you'd implement typing into shoot'em ups, but Typing of the Dead is the best, most fun typing game ever.
I think I 6 year old would have pretty big trouble with it though. There are some rather complex words and long sentences, especially later in. I don't know if there's a difficulty setting, but it would be cool if the game could actually be used to promote learning. I just play it because it's amazing stupid fun.

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing
It's pretty nontraditional for a shmup but so is any typing game I guess

But Raiden IV is sadistic! On "easiest" (where bullets disappear under your fire) it's normal at best. Weird examplehe can't even play Raiden IV on easiest level

That's the 2nd easiest. On the easiest, enemies don't fire at all. No bullets.qmish wrote:But Raiden IV is sadistic! On "easiest" (where bullets disappear under your fire) it's normal at best. Weird examplehe can't even play Raiden IV on easiest level

My friend, you need easier shmups, not typing games.
Do us a favor and don't bore your little fellow, rather employ some beginner-friendly shooters.
My suggestion, Eschatos (on easy!).
If he doesn't mind old stuff, try Tecnosoft titles.

I heard Futari Ultra is easy since you can just keep continuing whenever you die.

When I was 6 I loved Operation Wolf and Flying Shark... whilst being so bad I couldn't even clear the first stage on either.
An enjoyable hard game is the way to go.

Making a 6 year old play shmups is very close to child abuse.

God ! I'm nowhere near good at typing and this amused me for the first 3 minutes where you only have to type words to shoot them.STGAlmond wrote:This is basically what I would imagined when someone said typing shmup.kid aphex wrote:http://zty.pe/
But then the DDP-esque big ship comes out and shoots letters at you, game over. Great game, try it out pals.

If you enjoy that, you seriously want to play Typing of the Dead. Especially 2-player arcade mode on a Dreamcast.

I also recommend Typing of the Dead. I couldn't go back to playing House of the Dead 2 after I'd played TofD. Brilliant game.

The PC version of the original The Typing of the Dead loses same-screen multiplayer and gains network multiplayer, if I remember right.
Same here. Funnily enough, that increases the value of HotD4 to me.Martinov wrote:I also recommend Typing of the Dead. I couldn't go back to playing House of the Dead 2 after I'd played TofD.
