People say that the DC Mod-Chip is the best, no swapping required.BulletMagnet wrote:I use Utopia v 1.3, and it works fine for me, though, as Neon's already alluded to, it's not the only choice, though I know nothing about which is considered "best" in this field.Fighter17 wrote:Who plays imports with the Utopia Boot Disc you get off the internet?

I used to on my old dreamcast, but I sold that one and the one I bought a bit ago doesn't read CD ARRRRs. I have to get a DC X before my Under Defeat arrives, otherwise it'll be left unplayed like my copy of Radilgy.Fighter17 wrote:

I herd it plays imports perfectly.

I use the DC-X and apparently I've already encountered a weird glitch in Radirgy where once in a great while you don't get the option to continue after dying.Fighter17 wrote:I'll think about going with them. The Coop wrote:Don't forget http://www.videogamedepot.com. Thanks.
Oh yeah, one more question:

I herd it plays imports perfectly.
Your mileage may vary when it comes to these things I suppose.

IIRC, all DCs should play CDRs. Try a different brand, I know that Sonys and TDKs work fine on mine, but Fujis don't work at all.Acid King wrote:I used to on my old dreamcast, but I sold that one and the one I bought a bit ago doesn't read CD ARRRRs. That is wrong, unfortunately. There are 3 mainboard revisions and the last one does not allow CD-Rs. You can tell which version you have by looking at the sticker on the bottom of your DC; if it features a 0 or a 1 inside a circle on the bottom right then you can use CD-Rs, if there's a 2 in the circle then you are out of luck. Sega made this change near the end of the DC's lifespan to stop people from pirating, it seems.Metal Gear Okt wrote:IIRC, all DCs should play CDRs. Mine has a one and it's not reading my old boot discs or the one bootleg game that I have left. Maybe it is the discs.Ceph wrote:

Same here. I hate playing the waiting game. I might have to wait a week to get mine, depending on how fast NCSX.com ships. I hope they at least throw me a reminder e-mail come the release date.roker wrote:I probably won't have mine for a few days afterwords
shipping is a test of patience

Actually, quite a few 'circled 2' DCs are capable of booting CD-Rs as well, but not all. There is no 100% way to tell without testing. That is wrong, unfortunately. We here shall not rest until we have made a drawing-room of your shaft, and if you do not all finally go down to your doom in patent-leather shoes, then you shall not go at all.

Yeah, I'm surprised this isn't common knowledge by now.it290 wrote:Actually, quite a few 'circled 2' DCs are capable of booting CD-Rs as well, but not all. God, I hope that pictures is wrong. The last thing I want is one dreamcast game that doesn't fit alongside the rest. I'm praying for a small case with orange-spine. Do not deviate G-Rev!Neon wrote:Looks like it's in a DVD case. Awesome.

If there are organizational concerns, you could always throw it in a spare CD case. CD cases break easily, if not broken in the mail/by previous owner. Even if you take good care of them some toddler could knock over your shelf and then you can't open them properly. Would have been excusable to ship new games in these in 1999 but not now. Package your product as well as the competition has been doing for 6 years, G-Rev.llabnip wrote:God, I hope that pictures is wrong. Any pre order extras with this? It's not too late to switch from play-asia I reckon.

Except 99.9% of DC games came in jewel cases, G.Rev would probably have to special order DVD cases and redo all the legal/spec stuff on the back of the case. Really nothing to moan over.
The Sega Direct version comes with a poster, a sticker and the original (?) soundtrack (or is it just the arranged DC one?). *-neo

I thought it had long since been established that all known models of the DC can boot a properly burned CD-R.it290 wrote:Actually, quite a few 'circled 2' DCs are capable of booting CD-Rs as well, but not all. That page has been like that for quite a while, but it's not quite accurate. Check this thread, it has some more info:
