I use Utopia v 1.3, and it works fine for me, though, as Neon's already alluded to, it's not the only choice, though I know nothing about which is considered "best" in this field.
People say that the DC Mod-Chip is the best, no swapping required.

I herd it plays imports perfectly.
I used to on my old dreamcast, but I sold that one and the one I bought a bit ago doesn't read CD ARRRRs. I have to get a DC X before my Under Defeat arrives, otherwise it'll be left unplayed like my copy of Radilgy.
Feedback will set you free.

I'll think about going with them.

Thanks. ;)

Oh yeah, one more question:

Who plays imports with the Utopia Boot Disc you get off the internet?

I herd it plays imports perfectly.
I use the DC-X and apparently I've already encountered a weird glitch in Radirgy where once in a great while you don't get the option to continue after dying.
Your mileage may vary when it comes to these things I suppose.

IIRC, all DCs should play CDRs. Try a different brand, I know that Sonys and TDKs work fine on mine, but Fujis don't work at all.

That is wrong, unfortunately. There are 3 mainboard revisions and the last one does not allow CD-Rs. You can tell which version you have by looking at the sticker on the bottom of your DC; if it features a 0 or a 1 inside a circle on the bottom right then you can use CD-Rs, if there's a 2 in the circle then you are out of luck. Sega made this change near the end of the DC's lifespan to stop people from pirating, it seems.

Mine has a one and it's not reading my old boot discs or the one bootleg game that I have left. Maybe it is the discs.

Same here. I hate playing the waiting game. I might have to wait a week to get mine, depending on how fast NCSX.com ships. I hope they at least throw me a reminder e-mail come the release date.

Actually, quite a few 'circled 2' DCs are capable of booting CD-Rs as well, but not all. There is no 100% way to tell without testing.

Yeah, I'm surprised this isn't common knowledge by now. :( Under Defeat's looking great by the way. Can't wait to get it.

Where are you now? New DC games are very hard to found in game stores. OR I should say those stores won't stock any. :(

I am forced to place my order at Play-Asia... :?

So have we seen the official cover art for the game yet? Grev has some art on the DC page but they still haven't shown off the package yet.

God, I hope that pictures is wrong. The last thing I want is one dreamcast game that doesn't fit alongside the rest. I'm praying for a small case with orange-spine. Do not deviate G-Rev!

If there are organizational concerns, you could always throw it in a spare CD case. CD cases break easily, if not broken in the mail/by previous owner. Even if you take good care of them some toddler could knock over your shelf and then you can't open them properly. Would have been excusable to ship new games in these in 1999 but not now. Package your product as well as the competition has been doing for 6 years, G-Rev.

Any pre order extras with this? It's not too late to switch from play-asia I reckon.

That would be great. If it's the last DC game, they should really go all out.

Correct. The official box design still hasn't been released yet.
It's pretty obvious it will be in a standard DC jewel case, and not a DVD case.

???

Except 99.9% of DC games came in jewel cases, G.Rev would probably have to special order DVD cases and redo all the legal/spec stuff on the back of the case. Really nothing to moan over.

The Sega Direct version comes with a poster, a sticker and the original (?) soundtrack (or is it just the arranged DC one?). *-neo

I prefer Dreamcast's CD-like cases over DVD-style cases... hey, that topic is worth a new thread. Anyone feel like starting it? I'm really sleepy right now, I'd probably mess it up. :P

I thought it had long since been established that all known models of the DC can boot a properly burned CD-R.

That page has been like that for quite a while, but it's not quite accurate. Check this thread, it has some more info:

There was also a limited release of Eternal Arcadia that came in a funky DVD styled box, but other than that, yeah.
