Yeah, it is the biggest of the Mitsubishi EUM-XXX1 line of monitors. It seems very similar to the Megaview line, and apparently can go from SD all the way to SXGA:

According to an old issue of an italian Amiga magazine, it also weighs 124kilos :D Not even too much considering that it's probably the largest CRT ever made..

what a lightweight. The Sony PVM 43" one is listed at 200kg (440lbs).

I love how going up in the audio/video quality ladder follows an exponential curve both in terms of money and ease of use:
- Are you ok with 'good enough' quality? Just get a nice consumer CRT and RGB cables for pretty reasonable prices.
- Want to go out of your way to have high quality? Gotta hunt one or more professional monitors, mod your consoles, and get acquainted with a few technicalities (non-consumer connectors, sync types, etc)
- Won't set for anything less than the absolute best, top 0.01% bracket? Better have some cash ready for when one of these monsters goes up for sale in some part of the world. A crane would be nice to have, too. :)

I scavenged all over the web and didn't find much more than what I posted above. That said, the most relevant stuff is covered - h./v. scan rate, mask pitch, connectors, weight. We don't have the TVL spec but judging from the 1mm pitch, even taking account of the massive size it shouldn't reach BVM's figures (btw the mask shouldn't be an aperture grille since Sony's patent was still effective in 1994/5). I guess that the raison d'etre of these presentation monitors was to be viewable from a moderate distance in large rooms (while accepting the majority of video signals/resolutions) more than be a showcase of what the CRT tech could achieve.

Mod your consoles? Aside from the Nintendo 64 and NES (Analogue Nt with RGB output is better anyway), why would you need to mod your consoles to have high quality?

Really? Damn. I can sorta understand though - these beasts are so unwieldy that their owners are probably happy to unload them for peanuts in the local markets. I know I couldn't take one even for free :|

@Lawfer: Well, yeah, I guess not all consoles need modding (Sega's and Sony's generally don't). But Nintendo consoles? If you want the best you should really consider an hdmi mod for pretty much all of them except a SNES 1CHIP (probably still needs an RGB bypass mod or RGB restoration mod though). Of course for CRTs you will then need to transcode back to analog through an HD Fury or equivalent (do they take 240p? Will have to check).

How does this differ from the Mitsubishi Megaview AM 4201R? Is it just different model names for different parts of the globe?

Nope, there was a Sony PVM-4300 - 45" trinitron tube, 43" viewable area per the specs in the manual. I've never heard of anybody actually seeing one in person though...

The EUM-4201A and the AM-4201R are exactly the same monitor. The only difference being that the EUM (European) model runs at 220v and the AM (American) model runs at 120v.

Pretty cool seeing people from this forum posting over there. And of course it's always nice to see retro gaming being discussed in french! Loved this quip, describing the monitor : "C'est une pure tuerie." 8) Awesome

Hold on a second... is this an aperture grill monitor? Kinda looks like it and the "Diamondtron" line of PC crt monitors from Mitsubishi was AG right?

It's a shadow mask tube. Tubes with aperture grille need to be flat on at least one side, reason why the trinitron was flat vertically. The Mitsubishi AG tubes are true flat.
