Another oddity: Armed Police Batrider consistently polling at 5th or 6th best shmup of all time for years. That's another game I don't quite get, even if years ago I was pretty taken with its colorful style and oodles of characters.

I only just increased it last year from what it had historically always been because peeps wanted game weight to count for more, and even then this sort of thing still used to happen fairly often, especially back before I capped the maximum weight per ballot to something semi-reasonable. Remember Ketsui during the 7th and 8th runnings?

Note that a higher number in a vote isn't necessarily a higher weight than a lower number in another vote. It has to be compared relative to the other vote weights. For example, a 25 in a vote where all the other weights are also 25 is worth less than a 5 where everything else was given 1.

Nonetheless, it's never been the number of votes mattering the most in this process (as far as I can remember!~), but the weight of the various votes. Frankly it's one of the few things you can do when you have so many games to choose from that a simple numeric tally would make the list unwieldy and filled with questionable choices (IMO).
As it stands, despite some of the gripes this list is much more "balanced" in terms of the tally of so many different games/styles/genres than it has been in previous years - no weirdo choices like Muchi Muchi Pork, for one.

I'm surprised at how low Tatsujin I & II are. Number one was especially original for it's time, it was only a year after Twin Cobra but so much more advanced, and II has amazing music and beautiful sprites and backgrounds!
