There's also a really good widescreen vert scrolling game called Score Rush that happens to be twin stick. Technically, D-Pad and right stick work best because it plays like a traditional bullet hell shmup where you can shoot 360 degrees, and D-Pad is better for those tap dodges...

And yeah, a lot of mainstream reviews compared it to Geometry Wars because the player ships looked similar and you could shoot 360 degrees. Otherwise, it plays nothing at all like Geometry Wars. Mainstream market does certainly seem to be more aware of twin stick games over conventional shmups.

I trust in Housemarque who developed the excellent titles "Outland", "Resogun" and "Super Stardust", so I'll look forward to this new one with joy...

I know right, it is so frustrating that the word "PC" is not a part of the thread title

Especially as this is the main forum for shooting games in the English speaking West.

How much would it hurt the mods to do a little housekeeping and keep their threads relevant?

I'm furious. I will go post in the "little things that annoy you" thread right now. Or maybe I'll start one called "major grievances that also annoy you".

So very typical of this forum.

Instead of a small and reasonable request being understood, you get to deal instead with some cocky little assh*le who thinks he knows better why the main thread for this game should show an incorrect list of platforms in the title.

Because obviously that's what any professional games website would do...

This isn't a professional website.
The mods aren't paid employees. This is just a forum where people come to chat.

Politely asking if a thread title can be updated either by the person who started it or a mod is totally fine.
Rolling your eyes because it still hasn't been done the next day, not so much.

Or maybe your own cocky remarks were really uncalled for in the first place. The thread title will probably be changed in due time, and it doesn't really matter.
I'm glad clippa caught the gist of it. :P

Yeah like the mods don't read the 5 threads a day that get updated...

I think you've hit on an interesting point about this place though. Sure it's 'just a hangout' but it's also the only hangout.

Unfortunately for shooting game developers, they need their products to have some level of visibility here. I'm sure more than 1 of them wishes there was a bit more professionalism about this place.

Or a real alternative to it...

As a developer I hate to inform you that this place got as far as it did EXACTLY because we never needed to be babysitted by the moderators. Also you can't demand mods to do anything, that's just acting really spoiled if you ask me. Now can we stop derailing this thread over a stupid title change? I for one am looking forward to this game because Super Stardust HD was amazing (Still need to play Resogun).

I mean, you waited just 15 hours before rolling your eyes. That's less than a night's sleep and a work day. Even if a mod saw it, it's possible they just wanted to deal with it later. They're not paid, they generally do a good job, and with the amount of traffic and audience here waiting a few days wouldn't make a difference anyway.

The developers that care are actually active here. If they really do wish there was more active updating of info about their games, then they're here doing it themselves.

This isn't a wiki or some sort of a definitive reference with a consistent format. This is a mostly unstructured forum where people simply chat about shmups in threads with titles like "Looking for more shmup." Nowhere is there a rule that states that all platforms must be listed in a thread's title, nor is there any need for there to be such a rule. If someone cares enough they can read the thread, or check the game's official website, or, you know, Wikipedia (which does list Windows).

Also I think you overestimate the influence of this forum on the fate of the genre. Many of the most successful shoot 'em ups receive little attention here or are outright derided. All the active members here combined are just a drop in the bucket even for fairly niche developers like CAVE.

NTSC-J: You know STGs are in trouble when you have threads on how to introduce them to a wider audience and get more people playing followed by threads on how to get its hardcore fan base to play them, too.

I think this game looks a lot like Alienation also by Housemarque? The colors, the attacks and the dashing looks the same but it seems the theme has changed from aliens to robots.

Or am I missing something?

As far as I understand it "Nex Machina: Death machine" is much faster paced as it doesn't involve Alienation's RPG elements (loot, upgradable/customizable equipment etc.) - so it basically moves more into the Super Stardust direction while having the "saving humans" element from Robotron 2084 (Defender, Resogun). Compare Alienation to Nex Machina.

Also I'm finding that "twin stick shooter" isn't all that descriptive - there is quite a difference in play style between those that shoot with the right stick vs. those that merely aim (on account of limited ammunition) with the right stick. Limiting the ammo makes it (e.g. Alienation) seem more closely related to an FPS/TPS game rather than an arcade game.

Will get this on both. The graphic style is a bit similar to Resogun, which is another good thing on top of how the gameplay looks.

The dash move looks cool, a bit like Nier Automata's (that JRPG does remind me of a twin-stick shooter at some moments, only with melee combat mixed in). I'd imagine dashing has a limited i-frame count, or might not protect against colliding with an enemy.

Housemarque is considering having Raw Thrills make an arcade cabinet release of NM.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I got to try this out on a best buy demo station. I'm definitely going to get at release. Fast paced. Controls great. Some fun camera work here and there. Levels seemed to be pretty good.

There's a placeholder of 23rd may - https://store.playstation.com/#!/en-gb/ ... HINAPREBEU

The latest I've heard is "this summer (when it's done)".

I managed to get a place in the pc closed beta and just couldn't stop playing it. it's bloody brilliant!

I just had a chat with the lead coder, and he said they are in process of finishing it; I understood from his messages that there is not set date, because it will be ready, when it's ready (which is a very good sign), but it should be finished in June.

I'll be picking this up on PC as soon as my hand is healed and I can actually play games again.

I hope it give HMQ the impetus to put out Super Stardust Delta on PC too.

I seriously doubt that you will ever see any Super Stardust on PC, ever. But other HMQ games, who knows.

I suppose my (vain?) hope comes from the fact that the early Stardust games were on PC and Amiga.

Do Sony have their sticky fingers in the Super Stardust IP pie?

Amiga stardust was Ancient history.. As of now, they have been exclusively Sony property, and will probably stay that way.

To be honest, I was surprised to see that Nex was coming out to PC in the first place. Looks like HMQ did themselves a different deal with Sony on that one. (I left the company 3 years ago when they were just starting Nex, so I haven't been up to date in everything)
