I sure hope I like it after all the hyping

I didn't want to over-hype it though, just wanted you to see it! It's a really beautiful OVA, and a must watch IMO for fans of that era of anime. But I'm not saying that "it's gonna automatically become your fave anime ever, miles ahead of your previous fave", lol.

So, I watched the Vampire Princess Miyu OVA.

Aaaaaaannd...*drum roll*...it was decent but nothing special *gasp*.

I liked it, but I liked the individual parts more than the whole. Japanese horror and occult stuff has never been my thing (and horror/the occult in general) so the main theme didn't win much points for me there, but I knew that going in of course.
I liked the drawing style and backgrounds, audio (good stereo effect sometimes) and music. The music in particular was fun, love me some Kenji Kawai. In the end of episode 3 especially, with the huge snow covered armour laying down surrounded by police cars as the camera slowly zoomed out, felt like something right out of Patlabor.

Having it end at episode 4 seemed quite sudden to me, but that's also the charm of OVAs
There's the manga if I want more I guess, although some of the illustrations for the manga are just gorgeous.

Having something short and easily digestible felt good after Zeta tho'

Now I feel sorry for hyping it
I'm in love with that OVA but I should have realised that since you don't dig horror/occult, it wouldn't be your cup of tea!

Well, consider this your next chance to recommend me something else

I am thinking about finally sitting down and check out this thing called Bobby's in Deep ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) which I have had laying around on my disk for quite some time now.

You like mecha-anime right? Maybe you will like Relic Armor Legaciam. It's a fun little OVA. The ending is meh but otherwise it is a fun experience, it has a ton of charm. I'm a sucker for the young-mecha-rider-with-huge-potential-but-right-now-he-or-she-sucks-and-must-overcome-some-hurdles trope, so this one pleases me  Plus, I like the mecha designs, with their bat-like head. And I also dig the world setting, which, just like in The Wings Of Honneamise, feels like a parralel universe where things looks kinda like they do in our world, yet all are a bit different.

It's a fun watch and definitely worth it. It's not gonna change your life, but it's gonna entertain you. It's a single 50 minutes OVA. Only place I have ever seen it online is on youtube :

I'm 250 chapters in to Vagabond. It's alright, not much plot but quite page turny. Less of a slog than HnK and way less confused and aimless than Billy Bat.

I gotta stop going for these 350+ chapter manga, they keep me up all night.

My favorite Zeta mecha is defintely the Gundam Mk-II. It is even one of my favorite Gundams. Just like you, I am torn on the titular suit, though its waverider form is pretty cool (even after you see the recycled transformation sequence for the billionth time)

I look forward to reading your ZZ Gundam / F91 impressions!

Just watched it and I had a great time
Cool mecha designs and nice drawing style/character designs, not to mention pretty awesome music - Loving that ending theme!

ひろえ純 / 愛に帰りたい -We Need Love-:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDMZhLxdCSo
If I ever end up owning a car or bike, I need to speed around the night blasting this.

Speaking of music, about 17 minutes in, there's this tune which sounds very much like "Want Your Love" from City Hunter, like, eerily so.
Thought that was pretty interesting :o

But yeah, that was a fun watch and the abrupt ending left me wanting another 15-30 min of runtime.
Like you said, the world seemed pretty interesting and I wanted to know a bit more about it. I wonder if this originally was going to be a much bigger project like a full length movie or TV-series that just ended up compressed.

Anyway, always fun to see there's still fun stuff out there I haven't heard about before!

Have you seen The Tokyo Project/Tokyo Vice?
It doesn't rank very highly but I like it

And if I haven't mentioned it already, I also recommend a little OVA called NINETEEN19.
It's a quite enjoyable light romance drama, especially if you like the music as that is a big part of it. It introduced me to Toshiki Kadomatsu, an artist I've really come to like, even got my hands the album SEA IS A LADY from which it borrows some tracks.

As you say, one-off OVAs like this won't change your life but it's sure nice to watch something potentially fresh and interesting without having to commit to an entire TV series.

I very much look forward to that as well, maybe especially F91. I'm trying to get some friends along for the ride too, seeing as I guess it should be somewhat easy to see without any prior knowledge...I think, at least.

Yowamushi Pedal

Well if you've watched/read popular sports anime franchises already you know what to expect; it's mostly about X sport, but with action, comedy, and drama abuse.

It's easy to get hooked into binge-watching, here the episodes are quite short at maybe less than 20mn if you skip all the fat (previous ep summary, opening/ending, omake etc)

Lol there's even a completely over-the-top villain. Yes a villain in a bicycle racing anime.

Just how does one go about selling a non-fan on Nagai Go? I don't think it's possible. The FMA and Avatar crowd is no more likely to try Devilman or Cutie Honey any more than the Mass Effect and Dragon Age crowd is to look at Muv Luv Alternative (though it did, against all expectations, get greenlit on Steam).

I think I'll say this again since the 2nd season it's been broadcasted right now. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju is a masterpiece, GO WATCH IT IF YOU LIKE SEINEN STUFF!

Also Natsume Ono's ACCA. It's awesome and it has the best opening of this season.

When it comes to Go Nagai, you either like it or you don't. I think it's easier to sell someone on Osamu Tezuka's works, due to the more charming, classic looking character design, and the huge variety of stories.
I'm a huge fan of both, by the way.

Done watching Mob Psycho 100, compared to OnePunch Man the story is much more developed, even the art/animation preserving ONE's style is superior.

Don't bother reading the manga, the anime improves the action immensely while staying true to it in every aspect.

It definitely needs a second season, because this is only the first part of the story.

Want.

I enjoyed both series a lot, but for different reasons : OPM is mostly focused on the absurd comedy and satire, while Mob Psycho 100 is more thorough in terms of characterization while still having a bunch of funny scenes.

MP100's art style is indeed wonderful, and IMO very refreshing compared to the cookie-cutter style that is currently dominant. A second season would be awesome!

Watched a nerd on youtube complain about Kyoto Animation animating things too good.

Here I am complaining about that. It's meta level complaining.
>>Goblin Slayer gets his hand on sting/glamdring/orcrist
>>ditches it because it glows in the dark
Funny cause it's true. What good is a magic sword if it aggros every gob in 20 miles?

Neat how it's actually readable now that planet Namek has blown up.

Even though it's only going to occupy three to four episodes when animated, I still don't fully understand why they do stuff like this. A combination of wanting to give every character their own little story, laziness, and bad training on how to write a fight is my current theory.

It's like a completely different world from something like Main Character Hides His Strength. Where the steps leading up to a conflict take up 2 to 6 chapters and the conflict itself is resolved in half of one.

I actually read a fuckton these past months because of recent changes in my life where I have to spend three hours in a bus per day traveling around, though I never really got around to talking about what I read.
Managed to read all of Uchuu Kyoudai, Mazinger Z, Kokou no Hito, Grand Blue, Dorohedoro, Vagabond, Angel Densetsu, 20th Century Boys, Vinland Saga, Historie, Golden Kamui, The Promised Neverland, Hunter x Hunter, Devilman, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, Goblin Slayer, Gundam Crossbone, Watamote, Hinamatsuri, 4 Cut Hero, and Oyasumi Punpun in these past seven months.
Can vouch for Dorohedoro, Uchuu Kyoudai, Golden Kamui and Grand Blue being some of my all-time favourites.

I'm about 5 episodes into ZZ Gundam now and uh, wow.

I was prepared for a shift in tone but this is really silly. On ANN Cast I've heard it likened to Scooby Doo and that does make a certain sense now, I will admit.
Like, this gem of a scene from episode 4:

Image

It's surprisingly hard to adjust to this, but at least it doesn't feel as jarring when the old cast, which I'm almost certain has been lobotomised at this point, shows up and does something stupid again.
I like Judau and his gang, they're fun. It's interesting how Fa is running around with them now and Kamille is quickly put aside for story reasons. I do miss his old self though as Judau hasn't really done anything meaningful inside the Z Gundam yet and Fa now sucks completely at piloting apparently. Oh, and poor Yazan, falling into manholes for comedic relief.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice being able to get away from the super serious atmosphere from Z Gundam and I'm blowing things a bit out of proportion.
Despite my complaints, I am liking it, it's just a bit jarring how this is pretty much the total opposite of Z Gundam so far.

I started the watching it a few days ago myself and just finished it today, but I didn't really get into it until the fifth or sixth episode. That's when the really cool stuff started happening.

recently finished Gundam and Zeta. for the original, I watched the 3x movies. For Zeta, the series.

other than the dogshit animation (improves w/ zeta) but excellent story, I was taken aback w/ the copious use of physical violence (aka 'correcting').
regardless of gender or age, everyone seemed to resolve their differences by punching the living shit out of the other.
the comedic highlight of zeta was jerid, who gets 'shot down' every time he sorties (or a love interest gets in the way and takes a laser for him).

bernal spheres, o'neill cylinders, dropping space habitats on your enemy, spacecraft, and vehicular design reeks of retrofutrism and I loved it.
